I rented Butterfly Effect 2 this weekend against my better judgement. I knew it was going to be awful, but curiosity got the better of me. There is a reason it went straight to video. It is SO bad.

Butterfly Effect was so good that it managed to become one of my favorite time travel/alternate reality movies ever, and Ashton even managed not to screw ( Read more... )

This movie sounds so horrible! It's so the direct-to-dvd-bad-follow-up to a good movie! I like how they manage to take every good thing from the first movie and intentionally crapified it. And the last part with him and the male thug doesn't even make sense! It's completely contradictory to how his "powers" worked up until that point in the movie. Oh man, my brain hurts. I think I'm dumber just from having heard about this movie.

I loved your review though. I'd like to see you review more crappy movies that you rent.

No, you see he was working on getting pulled into the sex picture, and thought he had done so, but the thug pistol-whipped him before he quite had it.

So when he woke up with those feelings, he thought he was successful, but no. Although he is dumb for not realizing he was in a bed instead of a bathroom, yes.

But that still doesn't really make sense! I mean it kinda does, but it really doesn't. So because he blacked out while looking at the picture he got transported to a random place instead of what he was looking at? Maybe he brought the thug into the picture with him? Could he have wound up at any random time he was having sex? Could he go back in time and repair his first awkward, stumbling encounter with a girl and make it decent? Do the writers just suck and through in a gay sex scene because it would be edgy?

I suspect the last one personally...

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear enough. He was TRYING to use his power, but got knocked out before he succeeded. The thug knocked him out, then dragged him to the bed. When he came to, he thought he was successful, because he is always waking up after he travels.

Nothing says crappy movie like "pointless additional sex scene". I too enjoyed the original flick, and admittedly Ashton Kutcher isn't as terrible an actor as you would think. I enjoy his non-70s show work.

I look forward to more movies you dislike being posted!

but you recommend the first one? I have been tearing through movies at an astronomical rate (okay maybe not that fast, but I have been watching almost one a day this summer so far) and I need to add to my list.

Yeah, the first one was great, lots of cool subtle stuff thrown in, and really complex characters and emotions.
