The Ice Storm.

Just before Christmas, Toronto was hit with nearly 36 hours of freezing rain, which did a horrific amount of damage to trees, cut power for almost everyone, and made the entire world into an ice skating rink.

We didn’t have any major tree damage (lost a single branch off one), only a little shrub damage and that should grow back just fine. We now ( Read more... )

Gorgeous! Did you guys lose power too? We were out for about 12 hours (and towards the airport had power so those restaurants were PACKED), but a friend who went home to Ajax said even there, he'd lost power till Boxing Day. Once the power came back up, I saw a Facebook post "Power outage means there's nothing to look at but frozen trees. Power comes back on, and now there's nothing to look at but pictures of people's frozen trees". :P

We lost power for about seven hours. I knew people in Toronto who were out for days and days. Scary stuff.

By the airport, do you mean Pearson? I live just north of it.

Oh, that's not too bad. Yeah, I was panicking thinking if the power didn't come back on, I'd have to ferry the birds and cat up to my brother's in Markham (which he wouldn't have liked) or all the way back to Niagara - though a friend down there had lost power as well.

Yeah, I'm only a few minutes east of Pearson. Literally down the street!

The contorted filbert looks like it would be amazing in any weather. It's so strange that ice makes everything so pretty, but is so destructive.
