Alright, it's about 24 hours until the Franz Ferdinand concert in Chicago, which raises the question, "What is Franz Ferdinand"? Are they a truly talented and unique band? Or are they just a new flavor of pop music? Or both? Give me your thoughts....

i've only heard the one single, but....it seems the current trend in music in general is to bore my ears off...that said, FF is surfing that wave like crazy...at least from the one song ive heard, which allows me to pass infinite judgement.

Franz Ferdinand is doing something new and something great. Unfortunately it gets passed into the pop music, just like the single from the new Modest Mouse CD. But, that is what Franz Ferdinand is out to accomplish - they want people who normally listen to crap to finally listen to an up-beat talented "dancey" song. And it's working. They are transforming pop music into what it should be. Music is supposed to inspire and this music causes you to dance and that's what they want you to do. Although it has become mainstream, it is for good reason. Just because it's not underground, indie, local or whatever, doesn't mean that it is evil. And if it helps, this is coming from someone who had most of their music before they were played on the radio or FUSE. Don't deny the talent of a band that has it. Give it a listen - the music, like the guitar parts, drums, etc. and the combinations. As a musician, I know that it is way more difficult to come up with complicated intertwined melodies than just fast repeats and loud screaming. ( ... )

I would just like to express my extreme shock once more of the fact that you and I were the youngest people at the show. Hooray for dancing and a killer performance by the Scots. There is some strange respect in that classic 50's bee-bop look and attitude.
