Jen's Test Book Trailer

May 08, 2011 11:17

Hey guys, Okay, so I know sixteen years ago I said I'd be here more regularly to update and...  well, I still have plans in that direction, eventually. In the meantime, though, I'm working on a book trailer for my novel, All the Blue-Eyed Angels. I have lots of news and such on that front, the most important of which, I suppose, is that after a lot ( Read more... )

Hiya, Jen!

First, I'm going to just throw out a big HELL YEAH for AotI! I'm really, really looking forward to this and, honestly, the timing couldn't be better. Publishing immediately following the finale of Show will probably help ease the hiatus-induced pain we're all likely to experience. So thanks for that! ;)

As for your trailer, I am very intrigued, especially after seeing this video. Here are some thoughts ( ... )

Thanks so much for the feedback! Isn't the music great? The musician is Mark Erelli, who's an old friend who used to hang with my old folksinger bf - he's incredibly talented, I recommend him highly ( ... )

So excited to know that we'll have a new Bones story to help us over the hiatus blues. I'm interested to read what you do with Zac. Although I don't admit this to many, for fear of being hunted down by the Bones community, he's really never been a big draw for me. Your stories are always wonderful, though, so looking forward to it. Now onto the trailer...

1) While I really liked the music on its own, for me it didn't carry the tension that I would expect of music for a mystery novel.

2) This is a tough one. The trailer does leave me intrigued, but the fact that you wrote the book makes me want to read the book!

3) Does not seem cheesy or overdone.

4) I don't know if it's the music or some of the pictures, but I didn't think it was clearly a mystery. I might be inclined to reduce the number of pictures, b/c I found some of them went by fast.

I am very intrigued by your book. Hope these comments were some help.

It's been really interesting writing Zack, particularly trying to capture the little glimpses of heart and vulnerability that Millegan brought to the character - without which Zack just ends up seeming like a bland automaton. A good challenge, for sure.

I did some mad research on the island where it takes place (Monhegan Island - gorgeous little Maine island that's big on the arts, and was bustling with partying expatriates during Prohibition, which plays a key role in the story)... Hopefully folks will like it. I've had a blast writing it, as ever ( ... )

So here I am, better belated than never. I have to say I am stoked, STOKED about reading this book. I watched the video and I liked it. A couple pics threw me- they seemed a little out of place because we don't know a thing about the story. For example the old man with the 'stache. While that is a bitchin' stache, I can't see how he fits in the video. The story, sure; the video, not so much ( ... )

JILLIAN! You rock - this was excellent feedback, start to finish! I'm actually working with a musician friend of mine who's composing something a little more blatantly creepy than what I have on the video now. As much as I love the song, I agree that it just doesn't do what I'm hoping for.

Your comment on the 'stache dude totally made me laugh, as my brother had almost exactly the same reaction. I've got another couple of photos that I might use instead, but if they don't work, I'm not opposed to scrapping the creepy fisherman altogether. There are a few things that I've already changed in the next version, but I'll spare you having to see every version I make, and just wait to repost once I have the new music. Then we can start the process all over again ( ... )
