More Writerly Babbling

So, I only got 1500 words for the novel today - however, I worked the day job and cooked dog stew (that's Stew FOR Dogs, not Stew OF Dogs), and did other responsible, grown up things, so... I guess 1500 will have to do, for now. But here's my favorite passage so far from Last Rites - which is very happily occupying my every thought at the moment, ( Read more... )

last rites, writerly thoughts, snazzy writer's hat

You are such a tease-I want the rest of this now!

*puts away impatient face*

She shifted on the bed, which was the giveaway - she’d been going for seductive, but that simple shift was enough to tell him everything he needed to know about where she was coming from.
Love that. Because it not only tells the reader about her, but informs them of his relationship to her.

Good luck on hitting 1500+ tomorrow!

Thanks, Liz! Believe me, I want this baby birthed just as much as you - must give it time, though. Hopefully, very soon.

I definitely want more! I'm trying out this comment box again tonight to see if I can get it to work. I enjoyed the snippet from your novel.
Had to smile at this bit:
*She leaned back a little, so that his t-shirt rode slightly higher up her thighs. He scratched his neck again - digging in a little harder than necessary, just to keep himself grounded. If that t-shirt rode up any higher, though, he was gonna have to draw blood to keep his footing.*
Good luck with your writing tomorrow - may the words flow like water!

Thanks so much for commenting, and welcome to lj - beware, though, this place is seriously like crack. So much to see, lovely people all around... It's very addictive. Also, are those your dogs in the icon? I have a couple of border collie/mutt mixes that are the apple of my eye, I'm always happy to geek out on dog talk with someone new!

I think that I'm already addicted! amymcbeath May 21 2009, 03:49:01 UTC
I laughed at your comment about this place being like crack - I think it's too late! One of the dogs in the picture (the border collie / siberian husky cross - also called a 'sibord') is mine, and the other dog (the shelty) belongs to my in-laws. I went into the Bones spoilers forum last night to make a comment and I thought that everyone would be wondering about that picture as it seems out of place amongst all of the Brennan / Booth pics. So I am very pleased that you appreciated it. :P I'll have to put some more pictures on - I love showing my dog off, and I'm always happy to 'geek out on dog talk' too.

Oh, no fair, I want more. This is the kind of book where I'd see that the author was someone I liked, read that one passage and immediately pick it up to take it home with me.

Btw, I have read the last chpt of KitC and am still trying to process things enough to comment. I'm getting there, I swear. RL has been kind of a beast lately.

Yay, thanks! It's definitely starting to take shape, now that I'm able to devote pretty much all my brain juice to it. I'm so glad to hear that people are interested in it!

I'm going to post another couple of chaps of KitC on here tonight, and hopefully get that whole puppy round LJ parts soon. But no worries - comment when you have the time, because I do so love to hear your thoughts, but don't sweat it. I know what a drag RL can be at times, hope things get better soon!
