To see what he would do with it.
Did he not aid you and your family previously? And yet he has declared hostility. In his previous time here he had frequent opportunity to do you and yours harm, and did not.
I neither understand nor can read Envy. It is a rare person whose actions I cannot read. It did not seem to be a high risk, though, due to the help he has given you in the past.
Have I miscalculated? I added a safety net of distance in case he was different upon returning.

The previous Envy underwent a set of very specific circumstances, stemming from memories this version of him does not happen to have. I've checked.
He's dangerous, sadistic, cruel, and very literally has no soul. In my world he murdered my brother and Maes Hughes. I managed to defeat him then but only barely, and only by sacrificing my own life.
Please do not make any such miscalculations in the future, especially when my family's lives hang in the balance, Ms. Carmen.

So it is a matter of coming from a different time?
...No soul? How... But he is alive. How can one not have a soul if they live? I will buy that vampires lose their souls upon transformation, but they had souls to start with, and are no longer technically alive.
Murdered your brother and the man of endless pictures? This does not line up in the least with his last appearance, Alphonse. I remember well the earthquake, and the aftermath. I even spoke with him at one point. He did not seem to be filled with the hatred that would required.
I have little doubt that he is no match for you and your brother together. You truly feel that you would be in danger from him?

He's not truly alive, Carmen. He's a creature of alchemy, a homunculus. There are seven total, but Envy is the one I'm most afraid of. He's the most unpredictable of them.
Envy is capable of working with people, but the only thing that's kept him from killing us -- though he murdered Ed in the end -- is the fact that we're the only ones alive who can create his life source, which we refuse to do. He's helped us before, but only when it was in his best interest.
I didn't understand Envy's actions last time, but I'm not about to let my guard down. Not when my family is here. It's one thing for Ed and I to risk ourselves, it's quite another when we have this much on the line, and so many potential hostages.
Thank you, Alphonse. Be careful putting all your eggs in one basket, though.
Our own location was compromised to Urahara, but hopefully he's less...difficult than your shapeshifter and has no reason to give Envy any information...
I'll keep an eye out for Envy and give you as much as I find out about him or his movements. You kids watch yourself...
[Private/Unhackable]
And don't let Ed blow up at him, especially not for another short comment. He's liable to run off and do something stupid.
It probably would be with the trouble you boys find yourselves in.
Urahara Kisuke is from the same world as the Shinigami: Unohana, Kenpachi, etc. And is apparently Mayuri's exiled boss. I believe you already know something about Mayuri and his disregard for human life; he is also apparently skilled with poisons, so be cautious accepting food or drink around Urahara. Otherwise, the guy plays nice and charming to your face.
Maes can update you on anything else, I'm sure.
[Private//Unhackable]
I know... and you're welcome.
[A pause, then, smiling] And remind him to drink his milk, too, while you're at it.
Out of curiousity, Negi, do you have any ability to sense chakra, ki, souls, or magical abilities? Because I'm pretty sure that his signature is going to be different from a normal human's, considering he doesn't have a soul.
His powers aren't illusions, they're an actual reconstruction of his body, so even Asuna could be fooled.

Anything I should know about this "Urahara"?
[Private//Unhackable]
Ed's smarter than to let a few comments mess up his sense of reason around Envy, but thank you. I'll remind him.

I'd say we set up a safe-question, or a code.

Something like that would probably be a good idea...

Are you any good with codes? Because it'll be safer to have at least a few.
