Dozing away another afternoon of nothing to do, Basil was snapped awake by the crackling of the radio he moved into his room. The voice coming through was unfamilar, so it had to be a new recruit... or another freelancer.

Hell, he didn't care. He sounded young enough; he was probably someone who'd be willing to play with him.

Already planning the rest of the afternoon and the days to come, the short red shot from the base, detirmined to find his new, unsuspecting friend.

"Can't be that hard to find a base round here..." Jersey muttered, scanning the horizon, such as it was. Why out here? Some kind of strategic thing? It's a frickin' canyon... He wandered on, looking around.
Was that it, in the shadow? That had better be just the light at the moment, he thought briefly, and spotting the insignia and colours on the building's sides. Humming, he stepped up his pace, glancing around slightly but not noticing anything else at present. So quiet...

And so with a squeal of unrepressed joy, Basil burst from the base, and straight towards the new arrival. When he was close enough, he launched a tackle/hug at the brown spartan, not really caring that he was about to plow face first into heavy armor.

Still humming, Jersey really hadn't expected his first encounter with anyone else in the canyon to come in the form of a wild hug out of nowhere. "Whoa!" he yelled, overwhelmed. "What the hell... yeah, I know I'm great and all, but do ya really need to..."

"Like I said, we're all defects, and I'm immortal. If you don't believe me, feel free to shot me in the head or something. Lord knows I'm used to it. Ever hear of Battle Creek?"

"Nah, I think I'm good just shooting the other guys," he said, a little taken aback. "And I ain't heard of any creek, no."

Basil shrugged and shot Jersey a small smile. "It's a top secret research facility. Or at least, it was. It's abandoned now. The project's over, and the spartan 2.5's should be joining the regular army any day now." He sighed and gave Morelli's hand a squeeze. "I really wish I could join them, but I'm only the prototype. I guess I wasn't really meant to see real combat, or even survive the process. I was bred just for the project, after all."

"Two point five? You don't say..." It sounded unbelievable. Yeah, am I really the guy to be saying 'this is impossible'?
He wasn't quite sure if he could believe what he was being told or not, but despite himself, he couldn't help but feel a touch of sympathy. If it was true, it just plain sucked. And if not, well, being out here didn't look like it was doing anything for his mind. "How come you're telling me all this stuff?" Why does everyone dump this on me? Do I have a 'tell me the mysteries of everything' sign on my head?

"Well, I don't know. I guess I just figured you might want to know something about me if we're going to be spending time together. We are trapped here for the rest of eternity, after all. And that's going to be longer for me than it is for you, trust me. Sometimes I wonder if they're eventually just going to forget I'm out here and stop sending supplies. That would seriously suck, cuz I'd spend the rest of forever starving to death over and over and over and over..."

"Well, yeah. That would suck." He paused. Maybe he could at least take the claims at face value for the moment. "I dunno, maybe they'll work something out. Got long enough to." Another quiet moment. "Yeah, I do wanna know about you and everything. It was just a bit 'whoa' for a minute. Wasn't exactly expecting to hear all that..."

"Dude. I've played four on one, and I still kicked ass. I will so totally take you on and whoop your ass."

Jersey paused before he replied. "..Actually, yeah. If you can pull that off, you probably could. ...A couple of times, anyway." He laughed, shrugging.
