Enemy territory...

Just intelligence gathering, that's all, Simmons told himself as he made his way across the canyon. Just looking at the other side were doing. Seeing what the deal with everything was. With the new rookie and everything. Just seeing what had changed ( Read more... )

"Fuck that! You were the one sneaking around the base! I was just protecting it!"

Leaves decided he didn't like this guy at all. Sure, he had the air of an older brother, but he was kissing up to his Sarge. And trying to put all the blame on him.

If Sarge did believe him, he would have no qualms about running him over. Many, many times.

"Ack!" Simmons yelped, and crashed to the floor, as much from the shock as from Sarge's weight. "I... uh, ah..." Words fought over each other in his mind, neither the instinct to apologize to Sarge nor that to yell 'suck it Red' winning out.

He winced from the prod of armor against him, but his annoyance at Simmons' behavior was put before that. He gave the other man a good 'whap' against the head.

"Goddamnit," he muttered. "Thought I had given you a little more resistance trainin' than that. Get up. You ain't got any fight with my private. I'll give him a lickin'," Sarge said quietly giving Leaves a 'STFU' look before getting up to his knees. If felt odd talking to Simmons like this again.

"I see how things are, and I'll take care of it. And since he's so profound in stickin' his foot in his mouth, I'll apoligize for him for trussin' at Shiela." Sarge glanced off to the side, frowning a bit.

Leaves blinked, and arched an eyebrow "What'd I do?" Leaves asked, genuinely confused. It was a tank. What was the big deal, anyway? And why was he the one who was going to be punished? The blue guy started it; he shouldn't have been sneaking around their base like he was up to something in the first place.

"Y'pissed someone off, that's what!" Sarge growled out, getting to his feet and going to Leaves. He took the younger man by the shoulder with a firm grip and moved to where they were facing away from Simmons, and Sarge gave the zealot a little shake.

"Now listen, that tank's got a lady-type AI in her system, and she's really nice and friendly, and is the Blue's friend, got it? Now stop bein' a superficial dork and get over there and try to 'pologize to Simmons," Sarge said under his breath, giving Basil The LOOK.

"But why am I being yelled yet? If he hadn't been over here, none of this would have ever happened! He was totally tresspasing!"

"And why the fuck should I be apologizing to a dumbass blue, anyway? We're supposed to be at war, goddamnit! That involves fighting the enemy, and all we've done is sit around, twiddling our thumbs! Or letting them come over and inside our base! The only blues ever in our base back at Battle Creek were our prisoners, and it's not like they stayed long anyway! They'd escape in the battle, which was usually FIVE FUCKING MINUTES after we captured them!"

"I'm fucking BORED, Sarge! There is not a goddamn thing to do in this goddamn canyon. I swear, if nothing happens soon, I'm going to go fucking crazy!"

((Ranting, w00t!))

After letting the rookie let his own heat out, Sarge took a dry moment to weigh the options. Simmons hadn't done it, so he would. He gave Leaves a good smack across the cheek with the back of his hand - not enough to knock him silly but to let him know who was still in charge.

"Leaves, I've apparently got some explaining to do," he muttered, glancing at Simmons over his shoulder. "And if you think the rest of us haven't felt the same way, or haven't already gone crazy, then you're damn wrong on that one."

"And goddamn, son, if there was only one Blue in this whole damned canyon I'd let back into that base it would be him," he continued, narrowing his eyes. "Now ball up and go apologize before I have to beat it out of you and give you one hell of an earful!"

Leaves stood in shock, gently touching his cheek where he'd been slapped. He couldn't decide which hurt more, the slap itself, or the fact that Sarge was apparantly siding with the blue. He had gone crazy. That was the only explanation.

Feeling tears well up in his eyes, he dropped to the ground. He was confused, terribly confused. Why couldn't things be simple like the way they were before? Mindlessly fighting an enemy that always came back may not have been very productive, but at least he didn't have to think or feel. Now that he did, he didn't know how to handle, and it felt like he was spinning out of control.

And he had no idea why.

Sarge blinked when Basil fell down, and he stood a quiet moment, gulping and looking at Simmons for a lost moment.

"Um... Leaves? Basil, sorry for smackin' ya... um..." he trailed off. Fuck, the kid was cryin'. He knelt and looked at the younger man, hesitantly reaching for his shoulder.

"You okay?"
