The pace of the fic flows really well, and the way that you show the solidarity between Shuuhei and Matsumoto after Gin's defection, even if it is just for a short time...
A tool designed to reap life itself, and for someone who'd always been terrified of death, Shuuhei didn't think that was the best match.
I loved this too, and the play off between the two of them. There aren't enough fics out there that deal with Shuuhei's inner thoughts and turmoil from everything that's happened to him.
Thanks for this!

Guh, I can't even convey what your writing does to me, every single damn time! Lol.
But this is absoultely gorgeous.
It's like cold fire and diamond edges, wreathed in rising charcoal-gray smudges of smoke that lures prey close with a promise of safety, merely concealing the blades that will bite deep and spill crimson blood and Shuuhei's battered, lonely soul (and damn, I have no idea where that came from; this was just...yeah).
Seeking to find what lies within him in others, Gin and Ran and Ukitake...and Kazeshini. Oh Shuuhei, you only need to look to yourself, look to Kaze...
And the end, so, so brilliant.
Claiming KAzeshini is like claiming himself, and when he meets Kensei at last, he will stand tall (er, despite his injuries) and meet him on a field of equality, and this time it will be Kensei's turn to fall.

I wrote this with people like you and xglimpsex in mind, as I know how much you two love Shuuhei and the KenShuu pairing! That sentence of yours is so beautifully descriptive, by the way, and there's more pretty in those words than my entire fic! Hehe.
It's my believe that Shuuhei could really grow as both a person and a soldier, if only he'd find a way to embrace Kazeshini's power. But it's no wonder that he didn't when you consider his own fears, and the warped beliefs that Tousen instilled. Looking at the recent manga chapters I'd say that he's made progress, he managed to kill the captain who he still seemed to care for deeply. Good on you for having determination, Shuu!
Now it's just a matter of seeing where he goes after this, as his face looked broken all over again when Tousen 'sploded. Maybe I'll decide to write how things go when he sees Kensei on the battlefield. Time will tell, but thank you for commenting!

Yes! I find it fascinating when we get a look into Shuuhei's inner torment, and it's written well. The parts about Gin and Rangiku were so beautiful--I had this mental image of Shuuhei in bed with them, eyes closed, imagining that the hands and body against his were larger and far warmer than Gin's (I have this idea that Gin, cause he's so skinny, is cold) and his despair over the fact that they're not. And Ukitake...that made me want to cry (cause I ship it--I ship it with the heat of a thousand suns...) Ukitake is so very much the personification of Death, so I was thrilled when I read that part ( ... )

I almost fear using this icon. It makes me drool too. o__O
(And yeah, you certainly managed what you aimed for with your fic. :D)

I fear using this icon. I say they're both about equal for being sinfully drool-worthy.

...I have no coherent response to this, so please allow me to give some incoherent ones.
GUH. THIS. YOU. jgfdklgadklKEYBOARD.
Poor Ran.
Oh Shuuhei.
This was utterly gorgeous. Devistating. Heart wrenching.
I'll try to leave you a better comment after class, once I've regathered my wits.

You know for the past week I've been working on other fics, but both of them are in much need of tweaking, still. Like I said in the A/N I would've never thought to write this if it wasn't for the dream I had, and when I decided to write it only took me a few hours to finish. The words just flowed seamlessly and it has to be one of my best works to date, imho. If only all my writing could be so effortless :D
Like I told gypsygrrl420 I wrote this with you guys in mind! Even did a little third person for ya. It looks like I managed to deliver something decent? I'm so glad!
