A speaker visited my school not too long ago. You are right about usual lectures regarding these situations quickly becomimg redundant and ineffective, but this one really got my attention. This woman told her story about being behind the wheel drunk--she flipped over a curb and barely survived. Even though today she is alive, she is incredibly disfigured. When I heard her story, I thought about how careless we all can be about driving under the influence. Somehow we all seem to think that we become invincible when we drink. I thank you for sharing this story, Kim, and I hope that it touches everyone who reads it in the way that it touched you. We all need to think twice about the careless decisions that we make sometimes.

I just knew that I need to share this and write it here on Livejournal.
I can think of a few people off the top of my head who might stumble across this and secong guess themselves, because they know they've put themselves in dangerous situations involving drinking multiple times.
I just want people to stop before they do things, even if it means staying somewhere to sober up even though you want so badly go to home, or calling a cab or friend. And the truth is, some people cannot do that no matter what you tell them. Some people learn the hard way.

Wow, well this is exactly what I was hoping to hear, or if not hear, just accomplish I guess. He has spoken to so many people...who knows, maybe one day you'll hear him speak somewhere, too. Watching the videos right before you in a dim-lit auditorium just made the entire experience that much more real. Seeing those faces....it has just stayed in my mind...just knowing what was about to happen to them and hoping you could somehow stop it.

Anyway, thanks for the comment.
