I agree that the Oscars are too pretentious. I didn't even bother to watch this year because there was literally nothing I was interested in seeing. There is such a thing as a legitimately good movie that is also popular.

There was a good article in Entertainment Weekly about this recently talking about how this hasn't always been the case, and movies that were popular used to get nominated for Oscars. It's hard to imagine there was a time when a movie like Titanic would even get nominated, let alone win. Which is too bad, since that's what would make people actually want to watch the Oscars!

I wasn't a big fan of most of the dresses this year either. I do like how Busy Phillips's looks up close. Kristen Wiig's was pretty too, but kind of a blah color. I'm tired of seeing nude on the red carpet this year.

My brother and I were talking about this yesterday actually. Just because a movie is popular doesn't make it award worthy and just because the Academy says something's good doesn't make it so.

Titanic is a good example. Hugely popular, but such a great film!
