Dinah hadn't intended to go through with her plans for a date with Ozzy that weekend after the commitment ceremony, and talking to Tish. She'd been going to hang out with Priestly, and be supportive, and not self-indulgent. That's what BFF's were for

So, really, this phone call probably should have come weeks ago. After all, Jono had gotten Dinah's message, had spent that entire week stewing and wallowing, and in the end had only really stepped outside because after an entire week underground, he'd cracked and come to the realization that he needed to see the sky. But... better late than never? Which was more than he'd normally relent to, under most circumstances.

Dinah's phone was ringing.

She flopped down on her beach towel, unzipping the wet suit collar a little, and answered, a grin in her voice. "Hey! Hi. Hello from California, home of waves and surfers."

"And salutations from Fandom Island, home of gremlins and... also waves. It is an island, after all."

Jono's voice wasn't quite grinning-quality, but that was mostly because there was a lingering hangover in there somewhere.

"I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"

"Nope! I needed the break. I've been out here surfing with Ozzy and his buddies for an hour." She lay back on the towel and smiled up at the clouds. "It's good to hear from you. I was starting to get a little worried that something else had happened."

Once he'd figured he'd given Dinah enough alone time with Ozzy (well, probably not alone, surfers tended to travel in packs), he headed down to the beach to see if he could find her.

She'd just ended the call with Jono, and was contemplating another run on the waves, when she looked up and grinned at Priestly. "Hey! Morning." And for some reason she turned a little pinker.

Priestly grinned even wider as he caught the pink tinge. "Surfers," he said, coming up to sit next to her. "Good for what ails ya."

She bumped her shoulder against his, rolling her eyes, but still pink. "Yeeeah... oooo, look at that wave!" Then, after a sec, "Thanks for making me go see him."

Jack had watched Tiny cooing at the plants until he thought he was about to lose his mind. Dinah's text was a welcome distraction, if one that made him deeply jealous.

Where is that? he texted back. Then, more sheepishly: Hi. Not still dead.

Dinah giggled uncontrollably at that for a minute, then texted back, Santa Cruz, California. Priestly's home base. Here for friends' wedding.

Very glad you're not dead! Again! Don't do that!

Not planning to for 80 yrs or so, Jack returned. Lucky. Still need to get to Ca. Was it good wedding?

It was! ... there was naked horseback riding from bride & groom. Hard to top that.

Raven had gotten Dinah's text, and for awhile she didn't know how to reply.

After a few hours she finally gathered up her nerve and hit the "call" button.

A week and change, and Dinah was more than ready to talk to Raven now. "Hey, you," she said warmly. "How's tricks?"

The tone of her voice let Raven relax, a little at least.

"I am well, thank you," she said. "How are you?"

"Better. And not just a little. A lot. I'm in Santa Cruz, watching Ozzy the surfer ride the waves." Dinah smiled out at the ocean. "Just talked to Jono. He said he'd seen you earlier this week."
