Zeta who came from Nepal and doesn't speak yet got 100 on a math quiz. Sandy regularly gets 80s and 90s even though she is not yet fluent

I'm guessing Zeta and Sandy take solace in math, where their linguistic difficulties matter not a whit.

It is not unusual for ESL students to do better in math, as long as there are no story problems. When it's a one problem exit quiz, they tend to do very well.
