A rewatch of Chu Lu got me back into a mood for Tay Ping Hui, and I stumbled onto Unriddle. Such a shame that he kind of disappeared into the overarching plot in Season 1, and then had to die 7 episodes in in Season 2. >_< Like what Tay Ping Hui said in interviews, there was much depth in the characterisation of Yu Ze, and he felt like a real person, more real than Da Bao and Xiao Man in fact. What a waste.
More 可惜 is the never-to-be romance of Xiao Man and Yu Ze, but I can see why the scriptwriters did it - the impact on the 2 lead characters really shifted the tone/view of Season 2.
If they are ever to film a Season 3 (I'm still mid-way through 2, so have no idea about the final ep of Season 2), the fangirl/shipper in me hopes that Tay Ping Hui can be brought back as maybe the long lost twin of Xu Ze, who afterall was from an orphanage. So melodrama, right?! But I really need Tay Ping Hui back on! If only. If onlyyyyyyyyyy..........
Hi there, have you finished season 2? How did you find it? I personally enjoyed Da Bao more in Unriddle 1 and found Xiao Man the typical cold, efficient policewoman role Rui En was used to playing. Unriddle 2 though was totally Rui En's show and though apparently some viewer complained it was too violent (I watch a lot of crime dramas so this doesn't faze me) I'm glad the writers took the risk to bring the story/Xiao Man down this darker, more unconventional (by local tv standards) road. Like you I love Xiao Man and Yu Ze's relationship but yea, from the story's POV, if he hadn't died, for one the emotional impact on Xiao Man wouldn't be so great and he would be around with Da Bao to help Xiao Man stay grounded when faced with the games Jie Yu was playing so he had to go to tip Xiao Man over the edge.
