Hey Boston peeps: I want an excuse to visit you, and I also want to run in more fun races. Can you help me combine these things? Are there any races around town this summer that you are going to partake in and think I would enjoy? Or just races you recommend? I'm open to anything from a 5k to a half marathon ( Read more... )

I don't tend to pay attention to races, but I'll keep my ears open now!

So the warning on races in Boston is that they are super emotional, and have been for the past year. The Run to Remember used to be a benefit for police killed in the line of duty, now it's also a marathon memorial thing. On the one hand, they will no longer be playing the Dropkick Murphys at the starting line. On the other, did I mention emotional?

Anyway, the Run to Remember is both a 5 miler and a Half Mary, and it's on May 25th this year: http://www.bostonsruntoremember.com/boston/index.html. Daniel usually runs. I've run it in the past. It's a kick-ass course, through downtown Boston, up Mem Drive, and through Back Bay to the finish. The Mem Drive stretch is mostly flat.

Well, so far this is the only one that someone else I know would also be doing, and I'm ok with emotional (if people around me are crying then i don't feel silly for doing it too!). The main concern I'd have for that particular one is that it's 3 weeks after my Pittsburgh half. OTOH I think if I plan for it I could do it. Also, after running in Pittsburgh, hilly races don't particularly scare me much. :) I probably need to decide on something soon, though...

Camberville seems to have a 5k any time they can think of an excuse. The next one is two and a half weeks from now. There's another two weeks after that.

Yeah, I can find 5k races around here pretty much every weekend, too. Which is why I'm more interested in finding ones that other people I know are also going to do.

I just saw this article linked on Boston.com. It reminded me that you'd put this feeler out.
