It's funny, all the snow hiking I've done so far has been out of state. Do you know any good places that are within distance for a daytrip? And getting out for a day sans-kids is probably a lot easier for us to plan around than a whole weekend trip.
Out of curiosity, why does the overnight variety interest you less? Is it the camping factor, the more-complicated factor, or the too-much-time-away factor? (or something else)
Your trip sounds to have been so much fun! That's the sort of thing I need to do but finances (and some major life changes happening the next few months) prevent it. It must have been odd not being in instant communication with the rest of the world.
The part that really caught my attention was your visit to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory as that is where SETI started over 50 years ago, and it's one of my big interests.
Seeing you both together last fall at the wedding in SF, there still seemed to be an almost-palpable smiling energy field around you both. And your LJ entries are generally upbeat, increasingly so over the past year or so (in my own perception, admittedly). Hard to pinpoint something precisely, more of an "aww... they're cute together!" feeling.

Some people might argue that after 2.5 years it's not "N" so much anymore...
