This was a holiday week(s) full of family and food, which made it tons of fun.

I got to share Christmas with my family and the boys for the first time in I can't remember how many years. We stayed in Pittsburgh. My parents drove up from Florida for a week and a half, and katybeth and eub flew out, somewhat delayed, from Seattle for a week. The boys and I ( Read more... )

What an awesome season. Parents + kids + cooking + presents, oh my!

And yay getting a total audience for your cooking. The bestest food is the food that's appreciated.

mmmm homegrown Florida grapefruit! How I miss it!

When I was a senior in college I brought a huge bag of grapefruit back to school from winter break to share with friends. I arrived very late at night and went straight to bed. That night it got much much colder than it normally does in coastal Virginia, down into the single digits. You can guess what happened to the grapefruit I'd left in the car. How was I to know? Where you and I grew up, it was perfectly reasonable to leave fruit in the car overnight in the winter (not in the summer, of course). It was very sad.

Sounds like a lovely week :)

There is something both comforting and fulfilling about feeding people in your home. I don't feel as though I do it often enough. I'm glad you had the chance to really USE your kitchen and your skills, and make folks happy with FOOOD!

Oh, also feeling totally nostalgic for Florida grapefruit. My favorite is the Indian River fruit--which we could buy straight from the farms when we lived in Clearwater. Best. Grapefruit. Ever. *sigh*

sounds wonderful!

i'm surprised that Katy and Eli haven't had steel cut oats, as Josh and i periodically make an over-night crock pot version of such if we expect people in the morning.

We should do that more often. If you had some dried fruit you don't need much more flavor.

happy new year!
