Ah, that's so nice, these times make all you go through being a teacher worth it, right?
Was part of his punishment telling those he spoke ill to that he was sorry or did he come up with the idea, and bring a card and chocolates, all by himself?
Either/or it was very sweet of him. He surely wouldn't have done it just because he was asked to, unless he wanted to himself anyhow. You know, you may be actually getting through to this kid even though it sometimes doesn't seem that way. I think this nice act of his shows great work on YOUR part as a teacher. You should be proud. You may be the teacher who turns his life around, stranger things have happened for sure.
that's why it's so special. he didn't have to apologise (and he never does when he goes off at teachers, or hasn't in my knowledge) but apparently the first thing he did when he saw his mum was ask to go to the shops so he could pick up a card because he felt so bad about being mean to me.
Then, I DO think you are making lots of progress with him.Good Job. It sure shows he thinks a lot of you and felt bad for what he did. To say those things and then feel real bad for doing so, says to me, that he needs to work on thinking BEFORE he speaks, and work on not letting his feelings take control.
So Kane is a 'special' kid or something? You know, I've always wandered... I know people say kids with issues should be main-streamed as much as possible, and I agree that in a lot of cases this helps them. But what I wonder is what does it do to the 'normal' kids? I mean, clearly not all of them but I would dare say quite a few of these kids would be pretty disruptive and need a lot of one on one attention. So where does that leave your average kid? Less teacher attention, more distractions, a far more disruptie and unstable learning environment... what effect would it have on what they will achieve? What's your observations? In my own personal experiance I found in my school when I was in a class with kids who had behavioural issues, the teacher was all about them and pretty much bugger the rest of us. We sort of had to muddle through, which I didn't mind but I REALLY needed the help in maths and never got it. Makes me wonder at the wisdom of putting these kids in mainstream without an Intergration Aide or similar to assist the
