so i rode beejay today with my AP. he did not have a violent reaction to it and i made sure it was right back off his shoulder & that the girth was off his pectorals (kelli edumacated me on the pecs the other day). played around with saddle blankets too. still not sure about it's fit tho. kelli thinks it's okay (she's not a saddle fitter, but she's ( Read more... )

Isn't it weird how horses differ witht he rein contact! Dan will go on contact but he fidgets the whole time and will prance and carry on, but will usually settle right down as soon as you loose the reins. Desi is much the same although she will accept contact with a lot more happiness, she is very much a neck-rein sort of lass. Probably because I tend to ride her bitless in winter. Then again I have ridden horses who fall to pieces if you loose contact, these tend to be young, nervous or uneducated (all good clean fun to ride, NOT!LOL!). I've been very lucky in the past to have been taught to have light hands which I am quietly proud of, even if the rest of my riding ability is just your average pleasure riders. Once I got taught to neck rein it made it even easier. I would loooove Western lessons one of these days, but that's unlikely due to $$$, good thing I'm a happy little trail rider :-D
