I'm always horrifyed by what people can do to these poor animals. I want (no NEED) to start my own small-scale rescue someday. People are nuts though-how can they only see the horses COLOR? That being said, if you could have the perfect horse conformationally, what color would you choose?
i think that too... there's a rescue here (second chance horse rescue) and they're basically the only registred horse rescue in the state (which is quite big). they're the ones that the police & the RSPCA call if they can't get in there first.
i think, when i have my own property (prob won't happen with real estate prices the way they are), or live back on the farm (prob will happen but depends on jed - it is a 'fundamental' difference between us, you know those?) i'll register with 2nd chance as a foster home.
and perfect horse conformationally & favourite colour? i have no idea. i grew up with bays & i LOVE the deep bays with jet points (especially arabs with all the shiny makeup & stuff). also quite like the chestnut with chrome thing. my favourite tho is probably the deep dark red/brown bay that blitzen is. brown from a distance, but pretty fucking nice close up. that'd be great.
hrm, and i really like piebalds. they are GORGEOUS, as long as the colouring is *right*
My parents want to retire on a large space of land and my dad is interested in building my "ideal barn" (it would be small) and getting into riding with me when that happens, so there may be a potential for a small scale rescue there. I'd love to get registered and all that to be my own rescue.
As for colors... my favorite has changed quite a bit over the years. I still LOVE piebalds, especially if they have minimum white (like a splash on the belly). I once saw an amazing piebald mule who I still want to this day (he was a racer/jumper, really refined for a mule).
Still, I find myself liking buckskins more and more. I love the darkdark points and rich golden body tone. With dapples too!
I think my favorite color would depend on breed too. If a pure arab, I'd want a black horse.

The first one is one of the fugliest horses I've ever seen. And the 2nd is just so pathetically skinny. :-(
