‘Tis the season…for patience and understanding

When I shop or eat in a restaurant (or heck, when I pick up fast food), I say please and thank you to the store clerks/wait staff who help me. When they ask how I am doing, I ask after them as well and try to make polite conversation. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I, too, make a point of being kind and polite to anyone in the service. Sure, there have been times when I've had to talk firmly, but I will never ignore a basic opportunity to say "please" or "thank you" to service reps, et cetera. I think it just makes for good business for me, too. I tend to get better food, better service.

I am not surprised. Honestly, I don't really know anyone who is rude to customer service folks, etc... but it must be prevalent all the same given what folks I know who are in customer service deal with.
