This is excellent. I love how it's not a quick fix or a matter of forgive and forget. It really does need to be a development of trust because love alone isn't enough.

That's exactly what I thought. No matter Sherlock's reasons, the fall must have really hit a lot of John's 'trust issue' buttons.

The different uses for John's empathy were really clever and engaging, and I enjoyed watching him read other people's emotions (both when he got it right and when he didn't). His weariness when trying to deal with Sherlock after his return was poignant and I felt so sad for both of them with the way he worded his request for Sherlock to leave him alone. I'm glad that he and Sherlock are going to find their way beyond the ramifications of Reichenbach, no matter how long it takes.

I tried to make the empathy a multi-sensory experience that was kind of understandable but alien at the same time. And I tried to end on a hopeful note :)

I may have drifted away from Sherlock recently, but this brings back all the memories why I used to love it so much. Brilliantly done! <333

I enjoyed this immensely and particularly loved the imagery you used to describe the way John perceives emotions. I'd love to keep this to re-read later - are you likely to post it as a single file anywhere?

I've also posted it to Ao3 at archiveofourown.org/works/2685035?view_full_work=true

You can view it as a single work there.
