the new decor is pretty crappy (video) (12/?)

Has every room been corrupted like this?

[ Daniel is out in the corridors, talking on his portable communicator. He missed Yuu's broadcast, so as far as he knows, the mansion going Silent Hill Otherworld is the only thing that's changed ( Read more... )

his poor beautiful room, incredible amounts of common sense, event: rabbit doubt

I was quite certain this appalling excuse for an estate could not fare worse, but here we are.

[ The duke sighs wearily. ]

[ ...oh my god

oh my god is this what Daniel thinks it is

IS THIS SOMEONE NOT FROM MILLIONS OF CENTURIES IN THE FUTURE

okay stay calm stay calm ]

Good - good morning, sir! I don't believe we've met.

[ Sir, is it? Good start, my good man. ]

Hmm, no. I can't say we did.

[ He musters Daniel, slowly and carefully. ]

You look a bit drab, though surprisingly presentable... by comparison.

[ He'd be a bit insulted if he wasn't still busy not believing his good fortune. ]

Comparison to the others, you mean? Yes, I - I think the fashion of the future has suffered as much as its manners and its Christianity, ah, hasn't it.

[ He says this in the hope that this fancy new guy will agree and be impressed with his loquaciousness. ]

[ Oh sure, he could waste his precious time being impressed... or he could seize an opportunity where he sees it. ]

You mean they fell into decline until it became common practice to address the Duke of Buckingham as sir?

[ H-hey, it's "your Grace" and then "sir" thereafter! Which... doesn't do much good if you never said the first part. But more importantly-- ]

The - the -

[ WHOOPS. Daniel's eyes widen. ]

Your Grace! I, ah - I, I'm sorry, I had no idea.

[ You could make an argument that this is Wonderland and titles mean nothing. But really they have the significance you give them, and Daniel has not been away from home so long as to be unimpressed by a claim to one. ]

[ So far respect and servility have been goods the duke found dreadfully lacking, despite all wardrobe magic. Now he smirks smiles benevolently. ]

An inexcusable oversight on Wonderland's part, no doubt. As are so many of the circumstances here...

[ Do you know what he had to do this week, Daniel? He had to DRESS HIMSELF. Can you believe the outrage? ]

E-exactly, your Grace. [ YES. DON'T BLAME HIM, BLAME WONDERLAND. ] It seems a lot more suited to a less civilised time. At least, I've never heard people from the future complain about the lack of servants and so on.

[ Don't worry, Buckingham isn't the only one who's noticed that. Daniel's corset hasn't been done up properly since the day he arrived. ]

And how could they? They hardly even seem fit to be servants.

[ You, on the other hand... ]

Tell me now, what is your name?

[ Actually, Daniel would like to stand up for some of them, Philip and Dean and others who are very cool people despite their disadvantage of being from an inferior time period (with kickass awesome gadgets). But, you know, he's trying to impress Buckingham, and the guy's his superior anyway, so it would be bad policy to contradict him when they've just met... Philip would understand. ]

Daniel... LaRouge, your Grace. From London.

[ He sort of mutters the fake surname, already kinda embarrassed by it. ]

LaRouge? That has quite the unusual ring to it.

[ Unusual, if his tone of voice is any indication, can be loosely translated to 'thing he stepped in that is now stuck at the bottom of his fine boots'.

Buckingham straightens himself. ]

Now then, much as this gadget amuses me I believe I should like to take a walk. Will you join me, Mister LaRouge?

[ ...Hey, only Daniel gets to be disparaging towards his not-actually-name. >:( ]

Of course, your Grace.

[ He's not star-struck enough to miss the fact that Buckingham's being a bit of a dick, but that's kind of the privilege of the upper class, and besides, you don't say no when someone light-years above your station asks you out for a walk. ]

Where will I find you?

[ All Buckingham notices is the fact that things are finally going the way they ought to be going. Not to discredit his sense of adventure, but sometimes familiarity is much preferred. ]

The first door on the topmost floor. Do make haste, it has been an impossibly boring week.

Yes, your Grace.

[ ...Yeah, if Buckingham likes people with a strong sense of rank, he's going to love Daniel. :l

He's not sure whether or not to hang up yet, so he just hurries up the stairs, and before long he's straightening his cravat anxiously and then knocking on the appropriate door. ]

I understand, the idea of getting some [action] with the duke must have overwhelmed you. airshipswank October 29 2011, 02:29:04 UTC
[ Words clearly do not suffice to describe the levels of post-Elizabethan superfly radiating off of the man opening that door. ]

Ah, there you are.

[ Not intending to invite Daniel in and not yet moving outside Buckingham stands in the doorway and gives the man a long and appraising look, the kind that is entirely unfamiliar with the concept of subtlety. ]

While Philip's off with Dean he'll take all the [action] he can get. blimeyjamwalls October 29 2011, 03:18:15 UTC
[ Dear God, those bloomers went out of fashion like forever ago. IS THIS HOW PHILIP AND DEAN FEEL ALL THE TIME? ]

Excuse me, your Grace, but... what year are you from?
