Today I was telling one of my co worker's about my degree, and the reason that despite having a very good degree I now work in a shop.

She asked me how disappointed my parents were when I told them.

This kind of sums up just how unsatisfying and time-wasting my current situation feels in this stupid job. I knooooow it's a really good deal for a ( Read more... )

I hope you will appreciate I'm not being patronising when I say that I have been EXACTLY where you are now. I have a master's and I work in Zara. Obviously it's totally up to you what you do, but if I were you I wouldn't quit. The only thing worse than being finished with uni and in a job you don't like is being finished with uni and unemployed. Having nothing to do all day but think about your situation and having nothing to force you to get out of bed in the morning is the worst. Unless you really HATE this job, to the point where you just can't stick it any more, I'd advise you to just keep looking for better jobs on the side. Also, it looks better to potential employers to have work on your CV than a gap, even if the work isn't relevant to your degree. This is just my opinion, of course, and I won't be offended if you tell me to shove it. :P ( ... )

Ahh thank you <3 It's not patronising at all, it helps to be reminded that I'm not the only person in this situation at the moment (not that I'd wish it on anyone!) and I daresay there are an awful lot more of us. I feel a bit better in the cold light of day, just anxiety rearing its ugly head ( ... )

Be careful with Lush, I've heard they're not terribly nice to their employees. Good luck with the job hunt! I hope you find something you like! x

I echo the sentiments above - you're much more employable when you already have a job. Also if you quit you will have to wait ages for the dole - Im not sure what its like now but back when I was looking at it it was 12 weeks wait before you became eligible for benefits. Thats a long time with no moolah!

Re: the last question - It kind of is how the world works, but thats not to say that its right. I hope you find a way out that doesnt put you at a disadvantage. Hang in there, you x

Thanks hun <3 I feel way way better about life generally now, I think I was having what is scientifically referred to as 'a moment'. I just need to mix things up a bit and break the cycle I've got into that's stopping me from moving forward. Going to start applying for new jobs tomorrow too so I can feel a bit more pro-active and hopefully find something I care about a bit more! Happy = restored.
