The fans of Sailor Moon have fond memories of said show, but most of them aren't blind to the fact that the main character is a Mary Sue. That said, that is why a lot of the fans who do identify her as being a Mary Sue call her one of their favorites.

That said, the Mary Sues in fanfiction that copy her are just sad.

Might also be one of the reasons why I never really got into the series much... Even when I was 13-something, I knew an annoying character when I saw her.
Some of the other characters are okay, like Ami and which one was the lesbian? She was pretty neat, too.

But, Japanese Magical Girls. Eeehhh...

I honestly get why maybe a five year old would be infatuated with somone like Sailor Moon, because there is the fact that most girls that age dream of being a princess, but Sailor Moon isn't exactly appropriate for that age group.

You mean the fact that they tend to lean towards being Mary Sues? Have you seen Puella Magi Madoka Magica? Talk about an Anime that turns the whole genre on its head. I've heard from other people, that other Anime have done it before, but they still used a lot of the sterotypes and no one really ever got hurt despite the fact that things weren't as easy for the Magical Girls. This one though... I am hoping more like come out, or if there are more in the past, that I will be able to check them out.
