Sign-Ups Part II(a)

Jan 09, 2006 17:05

This is Part II(a) of the rules/information/sign-ups for the Valentine's Day Mini-Exchange.
Sorry guys, I know the last post was a little confusing. Basically, jamiefawkes is coordinating this exchange and I was wanting her to post the official sign-up post, but there were a lot of things that I'd worked out that I needed to post, so that's why we were going to do this in two parts. I was hoping Jamie would have the other half posted last night or earlier today, but it turns out that there's some problems and she's going to be out for a few days.

The thing is that, since this is Jamie's exchange, she's in charge of deadlines and a lot of the rules pertaining to things I didn't cover. On the other hand, we have only a little over a month until Valentine's Day so we do need to start sign-ups as soon as humanly possible.

SO. What we're going to do is, if you're absolutely sure that you want to participate in the exchange no matter what the deadlines are, you can respond to this post with your sign-up form. Your gifts will probably be due at least 3 days before Valentine's Day itself, but I don't know exactly when, because it also depends on when we're cutting off sign-ups, and again, that's Jamie's decision. I can tell you that you will have no LESS than three (3) weeks to complete your gift, but I don't know if you're going to have a whole lot more than that.

As for the rules and instructions, most of it will be the same as the Christmas 2005 exchange. You will be e-mailed an assignment 1-3 days after sign-ups close and you will have a given amount of time to complete it according to your assignee's requests. You should keep what you're doing hush-hush, especially if you happen to be friends with your assignee. All gifts will be posted Valentine's Day, etc etc.

Note that this post describes a few procedural changes and clarifications we have made. The main highlights are:

  • Mini-exchanges like this one will be limited to fanfiction, fanart, fan comics, and AMVs ONLY. No icons, banners or layouts this time.
  • Mini-exchange participants do not get to specify the media of their requests like we did last time. You just name a pairing and/or prompt and you will get whatever kind of media (fanfic, fanart, etc.) your secret admirer is able to make.
  • For this exchange, you don't get to specify pairings/threesomes you prefer to make/write or are best at, only the ones you absolutely WILL NOT do. Which means that yes, you might get pairings that aren't necessarily your OTPs or that you may not have ever even considered before, and so it may be more of a challenge. (For more information on why I believe we can make it work, check my previous post.)
  • As far as requests go, don't request it unless you're willing to write/draw it yourself. This mainly pertains to the people who can only draw het/gen but would like yaoi.
  • Crack pairings/threesomes are acceptable although bear in mind that we are having a humor/crack-based exchange for April Fool's. The rule of thumb is, if the romance (or smut >_>) takes precedence, then it belongs in this (Valentine's) exchange. If the focus is on the humor of the situation, then it belongs in the April Fool's exchange.
  • Fics should be at least 500 words in length. Aim for 1,000, or however many it will take to develop the scene/story well. Really long fics are, of course, welcome too.
  • Fanart should be more than a simple outline drawing with no shading whatsoever. Whether this means a really well-drawn and hand-shaded pencil drawing, something done in colored pencil, something inked, or something CGed is up to you.
  • Fan comics should be the equivalent of at least a page in a manga/magazine, both in size and number of panels. It doesn't necessarily have to be colored or CGed, and even well-done pencil drawings will be fine, so long as the art is fairly well-drawn in each panel, and the text should bear at least some relation to the pictures.
  • AMVs, in this particular situation, should make sure they emphasize the pairing/threesome. If it's a crack pairing or if they don't actually have any "moments" together in the anime, then at least put it to a romantic song, or something.
  • Above all, remember: Your work must be romance/fluff/consentual smut in nature. There must be a pairing/threesome/whatever involved. General works are NOT acceptable. You should also assume that, unless your assignee tells you otherwise, they mean for the love to be requited.
We highly recommend that you go back here and read the ENTIRE post before even CONSIDERING signing up, because it contains some important information.

I'm sorry that I can't give you any more specifics than that at this point. But if you are really, really sure that you want to enter no matter what, then you can comment below with your sign-up information. Remember that the form is here. (Make sure that you read ALL the accompanying information this time, because a lot of you didn't last time, and it made some things unnecessarily difficult for me. READ, people.)

If you would like more information about deadlines etcetera before you sign up, then you should wait until jamiefawkes returns before signing up. She will be posting a post that will be the Sign-ups Part II(b) and contain the actual rules and deadlines and the cut-off date for sign-ups and everything else, and you can then also comment to her post to sign up (with the same form). [If you do sign up now, you won't have to sign up again with Jamie.]

My option is just for the people who cannot wait and are sure about this, but either way, whether you sign up now with me or later with jamiefawkes, you will be signed up and entered into the SAME exchange.

I hope that's clearer this time. Sorry again for the confusion. Be sure and e-mail me if you have any other questions. Thanks~! ♥
