I *finally* got my free ball of yarn I'd sent off for months and months ago (a couple of friends who also ordered for me are saying it's just showing up now too). I'm planning on using it at work with my kids. It's just sparkly enough that I think the kids will get into it. And free is free! It's just as hideous as everyone says. I'm so excited

I'd heard other folks mentioning they had got theirs recently her on LJ somewhere... was this an LJ-only offer, or did Bernat realize it wasn't selling and started to give it away?

It was a Bernat offer that got publicized through, among other places, the LJ crochet communities. In fact, people were posting the offer off and on for months. I don't know what Bernat's rationale was. It is truly nasty stuff, but I've seen it for sale at Michael's too. But then again, I don't know if anyone's actually buying this crap. Who knows. People actually pay for fun fur flipflops, too.
