I used to support the Lib Dems, ever since I was a student. They had the right heart, I thought. Awesome ideas, focus on local politics, liberalism, personal privacy, abolition of tuition fees, reform of taxes... a number of things I thought were great

Please send this to your MP. Primarily the paragraph about being a network engineer.

On its own it won't persuade them, but they do pay attention to how many people oppose specific acts, and enough pressure will change their minds.

My MP is Labour and in a safe seat. i doubt he is going to give two shits, TBH.

Send it anyway. It won't take long to do, and enough such letters will at least get people to take notice of you. Demand to know what he and his party are doing to stop this attack on your freedoms and your career.

I was at this conference yesterday, andc somebody suggested that people should "Adopt an MP" by going to their representative's constituency surgery and explaining, in words of three syllables or less, exactly why all of this is such a bad idea.

An example given was to set up an email account like "jihadistintraining@hotmail.com", send the MP that email, and explain that they are now a Person Of Interest in the proposed data-crawl.
