Random Rant

There are three terminological (...) pet peeves of mine that have cropped up a rather surprising number of times lately.

I think Steve Hofstetter has a rant about "ATM Machines" on his CD. He's the comedian that used to add everyone on Facebook - good marketing idea, IMO opinion. (I had to.) Here's a link to an article/rant: http://www.collegehumor.com/article:248164
It's pretty much the track written out, but not exactly.

Amusingly enough, here's a WoW-related "ATM Machine" and "BSG Galactica" style pet-peeve.

Years ago, probably while the game was still in beta, the acronym "PST" was developed. It stands for "please send tell", aka, "send me a private message in game". The newer players have only ever seen "pst" used, as in, "wtb (want to buy) SomeAmazingEpicItem, pst"... so they say "pst please". /facepalm

Also: PIN Number

I hear this no fewer than 10 times a day: "Now just enter your PIN Number?"

PIN: Personal Identification Number

PIN Number: Personal Identification Number Number

"Scott, how many times do I have to tell you that PIN Number is redundant and retarded?"

Every time he does it is apparently not enough times.

Funny, I have no negative reaction to the term "fic"... to me it just suggests that the person discussing it is immersed in fandom and is competely comfortable with the subject. It tends to be therefore have a certain affection and familiarity, rather than a negativity associated with it.
