[Silver turns his head a bit to arch an eyebrow at Jim, amused. He's in the process of chopping up onions, and he has some already-chopped celery to the side of the cutting board. Next to the cutting board are unchopped carrots, potatoes, several spices in unmarked jars and a large slab of meat]

Grab one a those. [he points with his knife to the rack of knives on the counter]

[Why does this sound like more work. Why does this sound like he's going to be stuck here even longer. Not saying anything, though, he finishes the dish he's on and dries his hands before going over to get a knife and joins him. STILL NOT LOOKING AT YOU THOUGH.]

[Silver takes a peek out of the corner of his eye, before shaking his head]

No, no. Look at that; all th' peices are lumpy. Here, watch--[he's grabbing one himself] First, ya cut it down the middle. [he does so, quickly slicing it down the middle] Then y'take one half-[he puts it flat-side down on the cutting board] n'make three cuts-[he makes three lengthwise slices in it]-n' then a couple more th' other way. [he makes about seven or eight cuts horizontally, so the pieces are all about the same size] There. That way, y' don't have any odd-sized bites in yer mouth. [he sets the other half face-down on Jim's cutting board] Yer turn.

[Nice to know he can still do things wrong, awesome. But he watches and listens, taking it in. Hm. Seems simple enough. When it's his turn, he matches the cuts almost exactly.]
