The California Supreme Court essentially decided to neuter the so-called "Good Samaritan" law:

That is a weirdly narrow reading. If I pull you out of a car, I can be sued, but if someone else pulls you out and lays you by the road and *then* I administer some form of explicit *medical* intervention, I'm protected. I have to admit to being confused.

Not knowing the details of the case, but just the apparent ruling, yeah, it's extremely weird. That first person would be liable for damages.

I can't imagine any other affect that it could have except stopping people from helping others out of fear of being sued.
