Earlier of this week not one, but TWO of the best comic books on the market had their cancellations announced on the same day -- Marvel's The Thing and Manhunter from DC. It's time to start putting our money where it belongs guys, time to stop buying crummy comics out of habit and giving smaller titles their due. And that's what this week's ( Read more... )

It's funny that you should write this now. I recently dropped several of my favorite books and have decided to give a few new books a try. At least one of these books was a title that I had been following on and off since I was six years old. I have been a fan of this hero for as long as I can remember. Still, recently I have come to realize that the comic simply has not held the joy for me that it once did.

I have heard good things about The Walking Dead. I have been curious about Age of Bronze as well. Hmm.

Oh, and for the record ... I really miss Justice League Unlimited. Superman's scene near the end was right up there with Wally's finale last season. *sigh*

The Walking Dead is an EXCELLENT series. I've never read Age of Bronze, but hey, maybe I'll give it a try now.

The only time I've said "I'll wait for the trade" is when it is for a series that will NEVER get canceled like Amazing Spider-Man or for when it is a mini-series (like Son of M or the 198, the second of which I broke down and bought the issues of).

I think what you need to point out in one of your columns is two facts: 1) the companies make their money on the monthly comics not the trades so the monthlies are where consumers' "dollar-votes" are really heard, and 2) that not everyhting is collected (the most recent Gambit series was quite good and was cut down before its time but was never collected so people "waiting for the trade" never had their dollar-vote made).

(Please forgive any grammar mistakes to drunkeness.)
