All Alone and Safe

According to many people, I put myself in great danger last week. I took an irresponsible risk. I performed an act that, while totally stupid, required great bravery. I did something many others said that they'd like to do, but never would, because of the danger involved.

What did I do?

I-a 44-year-old-woman-camped in a state park without a human

Ahh, city-folk are so silly about that. As you say, the most dangerous and scary part of going camping is the drive to get there. After that, the dangers are Weather, Water and Gravity, with the beasties coming in at almost-hypothetical (in most places) fourth place. Stranger-danger is at the almost-hypothetical fifth place, because there aren't that many people out there, and very few of them went out seeking to hurt other people. For those who want that, the city is a much better hunting-ground

Yep, I was a much more reckless hiker in my youth than I am now! I was always in greater danger from the daytime hike than the nighttime camping. :)

Glad you had such a wondrous trip - I love your description of it; hopefully it will encourage some other ladies to go experience the delights of solitude in the Wild. Though it is addictive, and can lead to a woeful neglect of housework if indulged too frequently.
