In defense of librarians, it should be noted that neither Ms. Cook nor Ms. Boisvert has a library science degree, and nearly all degreed librarians are well-nigh fanatical about upholding freedom of speech, open access, and patron privacy. In fact, I would be willing to bet that if you showed this article to a representative sample of librarians, they'd be most outraged about "looked up the requesting patron's details" and secondarily outraged by "checked out the book permanently so no one else could do so".

Edited to correct egregious grammatical errors.

The one who currently has the book in her posession should also be facing criminal charges on "misappropriation of public property."

Yes, I consider the librarians the ones that fired these two.

How do you expect them to PROTECT THE CHILDREN if you are going to keep insisting that adults must have unfettered access to uncensored books?

Let's hear it for the Library Board, for firing the two officious biddies.

I remember hearing Chris Rock say that whenever there was a crime on the news, black people start saying to themselves, "Please don't let it be a black man... DAMN."

I feel similarly whenever something like this comes up. "Please don't let the benighted, bible beating barbarian be from Kentucky.... DAMN."
