Elizabeth: the Golden Age

I saw this film last night and I must say I was disappointed. The first one was magnificent; this one was disjointed and all over the place. If you've seen the first Elizabeth, you'll recall just how good the supporting players were: Norfolk, Anjou, Mary of Guise, the Ambassador from Spain who looked like Prince all stole every scene they were in ( Read more... )

I haven't yet seen the first Elizabeth, but I was also disappointed with The Golden Age. Beautiful but bor-ing. I'm glad it wasn't just me.

The first one is much better. And it has Christopher Eccleston in it and he's hot.

I liked it. I totally laughed at the Spanish dude at court, he and his hair were hysterical.

yeah, Clive looked way out of costume, BUT I DO NOT CARE. I liked the girl that became his wife too. I even watched the most horrible movie ever made called "Shoot 'em Up" because he was in it. I couldn't believe how long it took me to figure out that he was THE Sir Walter Raleigh, tobacco man. you know, the one The Beatles taught me about in Bungalow Bill, hahaha.

Oh yeah, that girl was pretty good. The first one blew my doors off so completely that I was bound to be disappointed in this one.

yes yes yes. but, uh. I just know I loved it, I can't remember specifics, oh lol. I remember lots of stuff from 10 years ago, but not that.

I'm paranoid about unlocked entries and TMI :o

Ha. I actually watch it fairly regularly, it's way the hell at the top of my list.

Yes - visually stunning, but emotionally flat. The "love" story was a waste of my time and, honestly, undermined Elizabeth's character. Her speech to the troops lacked vigor. And the battle of the armada? THE most historically relevant bit of the whole movie? Phfffffft. The pirate ship battle in the third POTC movie was way better than that. What a wasted opportunity for some serious cinematography.

The one thing I did like was the moment when she went out on the bluffs and "felt" the battle in the wind. Very eerie cool. That, and the chicks smoking cigarettes in the Queen's chamber. :)
