That's what I said all day as I went around and reacquainted myself with the folks at work. Many of them were happy to see me and one even gave me a warm hug to welcome me back.
I hit the ground running, starting out almost immediately on high-priority projects that have short deadlines - one tomorrow and another Friday. They're ramping up fast and furious with no time to dilly-dally. All of that is GOOD!
I've already created nearly the final version of one of the job specs. Creating job specifications is pretty much going to be my focus, which is fine. It requires more brain and less tedium than screening thousands of resumes or what-have-you. I'm working closely with the same managers I worked with before. I've got a nifty new title: Recruitment and Staffing Specialist, RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing).
Even better, the contract I have is ad-hoc but unless I make them unhappy with my ability to deliver results on time and within expectations, the likelihood is that I could get hired on here full-time and move into a project management role with the stuff I've already done as a specialty. In the meantime I'm on their "bench" staff as a contractor. There's lots of excitement here about this new RPO division, which is good.
So... it looks like I've patiently waited and managed to land myself back where I was before, but in a better position than before and making at least as much as I was before. At least until the end of June, I've got a contract to keep working.
So... now I'm back in the ranks of the fairly steadily but definitely gainfully employed. Wooohooooo!
Good things come to those who wait. It's been nearly a full year since I was last here and expecting to work steadily. It feels really, really good.
