That's where the word lunacy came from. [ he knows random trivia, too. ]

People believed in all kinds of things back then.

The condition of lunatics. [Random trivia is the best trivia, of course.]

You were there for it, weren't you?

Both words come from Latin.

[ he nods. ] Been around for a while.

Did you believe in the superstitions, too?

I haven't heard that before!

[Jack, you shouldn't sound excited about that sort of thing.]

It's a medieval belief. It's where the word lunatic comes from.

[Hey, that's understandable - trivia is the best, right?]

Some believe it had to do with the phases of the moon rather than the moonlight, but I find it interesting that the moon seems to be tied to insanity regardless of the story.

[Jack grins, even though he knows Coop can't see him.]

Well that's interesting! What brought that up? Are folks acting strange out there?

[Small smile on his end.]

Not more than usual.

[Sleeping at night was for people that weren't Otacon. The weather was manageable, Ecruteak was peaceful..it was all pretty nice. So he was out walking around as usual with a smile on his face and an Arbok trailing behind him.]

...It's kind of pretty, isn't it? I don't think I ever saw the night sky this clearly before I got here.

[He nods before he turns around - as if taking a lingering look at the moonshine - before offers a small smile in greeting when he does.]

The lack of industrial lights probably help with that. The towns are much smaller here.

Yeah, it's a pretty big change from what I'm used to. I mean, I grew up in a pretty small town, but I've been around kind of big cities for a long time now.

Honestly, the change of pace is nice.

You and me both. Even Goldenrod seems small by comparison, doesn't it?

[But yeah ... it really is nice.]

The moon's pretty closely tied with a lot of ancient rituals. Still influences magecraft as well, as far as I know.

But it's probably not going to drive you crazy.

"Probably" being the key word. We are in another world, after all - anything could happen here.

[Eyes a little weary, but there is a small smile on his end of the feed.]

It does have a sense of mystery to it, after all.

Hell, it hasn't done anything yet.

[Lancer was looking a little tired himself, but smirked regardless.]

Guess it would be now. Things like that were a little less mysterious back home, but you humans don't have gods and goddesses running around every day screwing with you anymore.

...Then again, I wouldn't be stunned if a few were responsible for Johto in general.

"Us humans"? So what are you?

[Now he's curious, Lancer. He looks away for a short second, but looks back with a slightly raised eyebrow.]

One of these deities you speak of?

[In a quiet voice:]

Is it strange, then, that nighttime is so peaceful?

Reply

[voice] blacklodged August 20 2011, 23:16:27 UTC
That depends on your perspective, I suppose. In my experience nighttime is rich with both peace and violence.

[Voice almost matching hers in volume, he's speaking in thoughtful tones and sounds a little tired.]

True enough. It is just easier to see during daylight.

Which is why we feel much safer in it.
