I've been thinking about the significance of our first pokémon. I find it hard to believe the species given to us are random.

[A brief pause. He's been bothered by this ever since his arrival, actually.]

The initial reaction on meeting your first is important, whether it was fear, familiarity, anger, amusement, or the more unlikely indifference. ( Read more... )

Perhaps we are matched by our personalities, aru?

Yours and that of your pokémon's or the general behaviour of its species?

I would say ours and that of our pokemon's. Then again, perhaps it's not by similarities, but how they balance each other out, aru.

'Cause I've seen people and pokemon with completely different personalities that still get along rather well.

It's a possibility. Balance in any relationship is a needed foundation.

But as of now, I'm more concerned with the actual species of the pokémon.

...I'm not sure as to he significance of it myself. However, the Pokemon I received reminds me heavily of a very good friend back home. And every day he continues to do so.

That is interesting. Do you miss him?

Terribly and constantly. I am also constantly worried about his well-being. He's prone to bad situations.

That must cause mixed feelings regarding the pokémon in question.

[Cecil keeps filing paperwork as he answers.]

I was not in a state to react much to Rosie, but the choice of a Cleffa for my first Pokémon does make some sense.

[Cooper looks up from his own paperwork to look at Cecil in the attentive way that is typical of him.]

Why is that?

The handbook says that Cleffas and their evolutions have a link with the moon, shooting stars, and the night sky in general. The moons of my world were both very important, and meteors played a great role in our very recent history.

[He nods, looks at Cecil for a moment longer and then continues looking for that certain paper he needed in order to file a few others.]

If it's a coincidence, it's an amazing one.

Well, as a detective, I pride myself on my intelligence. I was given a psychic type--the, ah, most mental of the many types out there. He is also a flying type, and wings have always been an important symbolism for me.

Thank you, Naoto. Your input is helpful.

[He remembers her starter - he's got one of the same species now.]

[Speaking of her starter, Watson the Xatu peers over her shoulder at Cooper]

My friends have also all gotten Pokémon that suit them in some way.

[Cooper looks at the Xatu for a brief but slightly tense second before looking back at Naoto herself.]

Do you feel like explaining further?
