Erm ... Just here for that particular post. Found your comment on Imyaael's LJ and, since I'm doing a bit of fantasy world building, I thought it might be an interesting read.
Hello there! I saw your comment (and icon) about Greek on a recent post in latin, and followed you back to here-- I share several of your classical interests (Nicias figures prominently in my thesis, and Marilyn Skinner's work is <3), am queer and into gender- and feminist-theory, and passively observe & enjoy steampunk's awesomeness.
So, er, I'd love to read along. Could I be ker-friended?
My thesis is about the connections between 1) Hippocratic thoughts on the nature of medical τέχνη and the role persuasion/communication/rhetoric plays in the doctor-patient relationship, and 2) Thucydides' treatment (in the Sicilian Debate, hence Nicias) and Plato's treatment (primarily in the Gorgias, but I'm tying it to the Phaedrus and the Laws) of the relationship between political τέχνη and the role of rhetoric in the politician-demos relationship, both of which texts make heavy use of medical/doctor metaphors to explore the topic. Oof.
Where are you in grad school, if I may ask? And what are you working on?

So, what's your thesis about? (A question you probably get asked a lot...)
