So, in one of limyaael's fantasy rants, eunuchs came up. And, well, you know me and eunuchs. And some people asked for more information. And if there's one topic I can go on and on about, it's eunuchs. Oh, and ancient sexuality is in there, too.

Thanks so much for this! For some reason this is really something my professors seem to skip over entirely when we're studying life in ancient Rome. (Greece, I dunno, I haven't taken many classes on Greece. Maybe they're better in that arena). Absolutely fascinating, and thank you for taking the time!

Oh and PS -- would it be really weird if I asked what your thesis is called? Our library has a really excellent system for getting copies of theses from all over the world when people need them, and well, I work at the library so I can put myself at the front of the line. ;) I'd love to read it, if that wouldn't be too weird for you.

Not weird at all! It's very flattering, actually. (Though I warn you that there are some parts that I cringe at when I reread. Although...I'm like that with pretty much any writing of mine that's more than three months old.)

Anyway, it's called "Roman Eunuchs: Sex, Gender, and Identity".

Awesome! Thanks! (And don't worry, I feel the same way about my writing when I go back and look at it too). Mind if I friend you? You don't need to friend me back, or anything, I'd just like to let you know if and when I ever do get my hands on it. It can take a while and I'm good at losing webpages, so I thought this might be a good way to keep track of where you are in the meantime. :P

Man. Now I want to write something with a eunuch as the main character.

Sigh. Lemme finish editing LLTD and writing the novelette in progress. Grr.

And I so totally need to get that textbook. Any idea how much it runs? *braces self for incredibly high textbook prices*

If you write something with a eunuch protagonist I will swear eternal servitude to you and be your minion for life.

The textbook was $29.95. Not too bad for a large textbooky thing.

Would it be too much to ask you to email me a copy of your thesis? I know Bree has one, but I've bever gotten to read it *grr aargh* and I would very much like to, since the topic is fascinating and all my eunuch-info has come from you, either directly or via Bree.

No prob! Though I'll have to find it first. I have so many drafts and backup files of the bloody thing that I have a dozen files titled THESIS (in one manner or another) and I'm no longer quite sure where I put my final copy.
