Anyone got any bright ideas about what I can get my 83-year-old grandmother for her birthday? Actually, I need two ideas because I didn't see her at Christmas so I need to give her a Christmas present too

I have two 'gifts' I always fall back on for more senior members of the family.
[*] Something photo related - A nice frame, photo album, I've even had pics transfered onto small canvases in the past (it usually takes 3-7 days though. :( )
The next one's a bit duff, but it can work in an emergency.
[*] You/Your Time - Ask if there's anything she wants to do or see and make yourself available for a day (or half a day). That way she does the present selection for you. ;)
If she's not living locally or has mobility problems you could incorporate the two ideas. Offer to sit down with her next time you get together & put together a set of pictures; you could then get them made into a printed book. (That would cost from £20).
I'd thought about the photo album idea, Sholls, but didn't have either enough time or enough pictures to get it sorted. I might bear it in mind for next time though! I gave her a lot of family tree information last year and she was thrilled with all the stuff I'd found out about her forebears.
Anyway, panic over! I've been into York at lunch time and returned with a Radley purse and a matching compact mirror and atomiser from a local gift shop.
