More of the same.

Snowing again!  More like a blizzard, in fact.

I hope all my friends get home safely before snow sets in in their regions.

Brrr! I hope you're keeping good and warm. I had to put the heating on during the day, and I'll be putting a thicker duvet on the bed tonight. I'll also need to put some new sealing strip on one of the bedroom windows where a howling draught is coming in.

Luton Airport was reporting showers of snow during the night, but this morning there was only the slightest sprinkling on the cars here (about 12 miles east of the airport, and 130 feet lower). Even that was soon gone. I imagine we'll get it much more heavily soon, though - yesterday they said on the radio weather forecast that snow was expected right down to the south coast.

I expect Geoff will be home earlier tonight if it starts to snow in earnest. With our road closed to through traffic because of the gas main replacement,
it'll probably be quite unpleasant to drive on pretty soon.

We had the central heating on all afternoon and evening yesterday, but today it's been on the clock, but with the extra heat from the calor gas and paraffin heaters all day. They were a really good idea; they keep up a reasonable level of background warmth and we pay for the fuel in advance, so no unexpectedly large bills. It's a relief, to be honest.

And we've had the calor gas heater for years. I bought it when we lived in Four Marks for those sudden electricity blackouts we were subject to there.

The very modern and virtually odour-free paraffin heater cost just under £200 but the cost will be covered by the winter heating allowance the gummint gives us.

The cats love the heaters. Phoebe stretches out in front of the calor gas fire and Morgan loves the paraffin heater.

The extra heaters with pre-paid fuel sound like an excellent idea. There's too much stuff in the rooms here to allow space for anything like that, but if and when we have to replace our central heating boiler, we may consider a larger model with the power to get the house quickly up to temperature, which I think ought to save gas over the small one which we have at present, and which sometimes struggles to keep the place warm ( ... )

BTW, I've just had the Fairport Convention winter mailing, and it included a list of Maddy Prior's gigs. She's at the Sage, Gateshead, on the 18th. of December with her Carnival Band.

Yes I know. I'm having a horrible struggle with myself as I don't think I can really afford it this year but would dearly love to go. The trouble is that I would have to buy two tickets, one for me and one for Charles, since no-one trusts me out at night on my own any more.
