I loved this! It's like a cross between the magical realism you do so well and 70's Star Trek episode where the alien planet seems more surreal than alien, if you know what I mean. (And with the Doctor instead of Captain Kirk. :-p)
I loved that John Hart was the "hero", and that he came with his own warning in the story header. Hell, he should have a warning tattooed on his forehead! :)
And somehow, despite all the effort Ianto put into trying (and failing) to get Jack's help, then enlisting the Doctor, it's John Hart who comes to the rescue. It's oddly satisfying that the rogue succeeds while the heroes are still stumbling about causing chaos.
I wonder if the Doctor's visit will change the lives of the other gatekeepers for the better. I hope so, and at least Sekheme got away.
As for Jack and Ianto, this is just the beginning, who knows what their future holds?
Brilliant. So much fun, but with the undercurrent of loss that makes torchwood at its best so compelling. (It isn't all about the pretties :)... much). Also left me wanting more, which short stories should. Made my sunday morning.
