'A Little Night Music' is an amazing musical. I'm in love with Stephen Sondheim. This has been true for a while now, but seriously guys. I went to see it in London today and I know everyone already knows Send in the Clowns, but in context, with a good actress singing it, it gives you chills. Also Every Day a Little Death. The metafandom thing is daunting, yeah. I'm Chinese and *I* worry that I'm writing people of colour wrong. Or heck, not writing them at all. We've been so Westernized. My sister jokes we're white-washed.

I don't think the fear should stop you. My OTP right now are two white boys with white privilege coming out their ass. But what can I do? I love them and want to write kidfic and happy domestic crap. Any characters of colour will be secondary, and I'll do my best to flesh them out, give them a voice. But they're still not my focus. Ditto the women. I'm not doing the Teal'c ficathon. *flails*

But little by little we can get better, I think. And if someone points out something we did wrong, at least we'll know enough to say, "I see what I did wrong there, and I'll try to do better next time." Right?

It's just... I try my best to avoid the worst pitfalls - if I'm writing slash, I don't ignore the women, and I don't attack them. It just feels like I should be doing more than not actively making things worse, you know?

And yet I keep ending up slashing white guys! You're right though - sometimes you just write what you write, and try your best to give the other characters something to say too.

At some point though, looking at my back-catalogue is going to depress me enough that I write some of the original stuff. Which has a much more balanced cast that almost anything I fic. But will require research, and more thought *sulks*

Ugh, chuck and dan....I'm waiting for the porn battle. I have so much stuff for them in my head. Plus, they were the main ship in my first and only long Gossip Girl fic (which I will now shamelessly pimp right here.

Lord but they are so fucking pretty.

*g* Would you believe it's already on my list of things to read when I get that far in S2? I'm trying really hard not to spoil myself too badly for Gossip Girl, though that may go out the window during Porn Battle. I just like being scandalised as I'm watching, rather than in advance. And for SPN and stuff like that I've no hope of remaining unspoiled - people squee too much!

And yes, they're just ridiculously pretty. ♥
