American spelling

Why do so many LJ posts contain American spelling?
Surely it is instinctive to put  the 'u' in favourite or behaviour -  or whatever?

I should have qualified that with 'non American/Canadian' LJ posts.

One hypothesis:

So many LJ users are CS geeks in some capacity, and since computers are so pedantic about spelling ("colour" bears no relation to "color" in the eyes of a computer) and because so many programming languages are written buy people who use US spellings by default (if not USians, then some other non-Commonwealth country), US spellings have become pervasive in this sphere of conciousness.

Of course, that may be non-sense.
