Dedication: To any and all of my readers, wherever you are. This fic starts out dark, but hopefully will get much brighter. The future gets brighter, darlings, but you have to be around to see it! Without you, the world is less bright; my world is less bright. Don't give up, I love you.
A/N 1: So this fic really sorta starts out as ‘no pairings’ and may at some point widen to almost ‘all pairings’ in some way or another. (Even if it is just friendship and minor ‘crushing’, I’m trying to widen the scope of my fics a bit.) To start though, not really any specific pairings. You’ll see when it gets ‘real’. Ship away though, babes!
A/N 2: So we're past the 'character death' hurdle, thanks for sticking with me (if you're reading this, of course). Anyway, on to new things! So this isn't really new, because if you read me you should have seen this bitch by now... But wave at my blondeAmericana
thesilveramazon if you're grateful to her, okay? I know I am. Ya! Babe? I love you.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of DBSK, HoMin, JYJ or any other bands that may make cameo appearances. I never saw this happen, I don't claim this to be true because it is FAN FICTION and a product of my own mind. I own and ‘am’ the “L” in “XLS” which will probably visit here. I own the other two bitches too (X&S) but don’t tell them I told you, okay? I have no beta, forgive mistakes.

Hours crept past as the Angel sat watch over his new charge, filled only by Jaejoong’s own thoughts and the sounds of various machines. There were several times that Jaejoong wanted to speak, wanted to talk to Yoochun to fill the silence, but he wasn’t sure how or where to begin. What should he say? Would it matter, if the drugs held the other man captive as the nurse said they should?
And so Jaejoong continued in silence, watching the injured man sleep, praying he would heal. It was not unlike the days he had spent listening to the pianist as he played, longing to speak to the man whose emotions he could hear in each note.
Jaejoong started when Silver returned to the room, jumping because her hand came to rest on his shoulder. He didn’t fly out of the chair, but it was a near thing, and his eyes were wide and shocked as he gazed up at her. He wasn’t familiar with the feeling at all, but his heart raced in his chest at a painful rate and he had to work at swallowing a startled noise.
Silver was wide-eyed and had jumped back a good few feet, one hand on her chest as she drew breath as fast as Jaejoong. For a few moments all they did was gasp and stare at each other, and then the nurse managed a weak smile that the Angel returned.
“Sorry.” She murmured, her Korean flowing a little easier than earlier in her anger. “I did speak when I walked through the door, but you didn’t seem to hear me.”
“No, I, ah, no.” He murmured with an apologetic bow of his head. A little shame flicked through his mind -at least he thought it was shame- and embarrassment too.
He had been listening, but certainly not for the nurse. For a hint of Grace, for a change in Yoochun, for the arrival of another Angel and another scolding… But not for the Head Nurse to return.
“I’m afraid I let my mind wander a little.” He explained softly. “I really didn’t mean to startle you, Nurse Trayne.”
“Just Silver, please.” She smiled faintly and moved closer to his side again. “Can I call you Jaejoong?”
“Please.” He murmured, still watching Yoochun. A few moments stretched by in silence, and without glancing at her he spoke again. “He’ll live, yes?”
“He’ll survive this.” Silver hedged quietly. “But I know his condition when he arrived, Jaejoong… I know what you said to dispatch as well as what the EMTs found. He tried to kill himself, and if we can’t fix what caused that… Well, I doubt he’ll stay this way.”
“I understand.” Jaejoong replied, his tone dropping to a near-whisper. He did understand. The doctors could only hope to repair Yoochun’s body -most of which Jaejoong had done with his Grace- and that wouldn’t guarantee he was ‘healed’. “But he’ll live through this time.”
“Yes, this time.” Silver nodded. “When he wakes, we’ll probably keep him for observation, and someone will want to do a consult if not a true evaluation. I’m not saying we won’t release him into public while he’s suicidal -this is Seoul, and according to some very depressing statistics, most people here are suicidal- but they do want to make sure he isn’t a danger to others.”
“Yoochun won’t hurt anyone.” Jaejoong said softly with a negating shake of his head. “At least, not anyone but himself… But I hope that I can change that impulse too.”
“I hope you can, too.” Silver admitted, gently patting his shoulder.
Jaejoong drew a deep breath, steeling himself. “So then, time for me to go?”
“I’m afraid so.”
“Well, thank you for letting me sit here this long… And thank you for talking to me.” Jaejoong shot her a swift smile as he straightened. “I’m sure you shouldn’t.”
“Well…” Silver hedged. “There is this annoying concept of doctor-patient confidentiality… But between us, Jaejoong? Yoochun won’t be awake for several more hours, he isn’t exactly trustworthy with his own care, and I’m not a doctor.”
Jaejoong blinked, smiling as he caught her wink, and bowed deeply. “Much better than a doctor, that much is clear. I hope to see you soon, Nurse- Silver.”
Silver grinned. “Don’t try to sweet-talk me; I spent half the day beating my staff for mooning over you. Get out of here now, I have work to do. Come back tomorrow.”
Jaejoong grinned again. “Count on it.”
*
Harang’s glee at having Jaejoong return was obvious. The fluffy dog bounced and barked, rocketing around the apartment and fetching various toys which he offered to be thrown or for the sake of praise the Angel heaped on him. When the initial joy was burnt out, he settled for napping at Jaejoong’s feet while the Angel sat on the couch and paged through various books and magazines.
When Jaejoong could no longer tolerate the stillness, he moved on to organizing and cleaning the coffee table, bookshelves and magazine rack. And the whole time he did so, the Malamute sat nearby, a toy within reach and his eyes fixed on the door. Jaejoong glanced at the dog from time to time, talking to him as he attempted to distract Harang from the endless waiting.
“He won’t be home tonight, boy.” Jaejoong murmured, finally having decided that the dog’s glee was less about his return and more about the lingering scent of his master. Now using a soft cloth to wipe off the various picture frames scattered over the shelf, the Angel carefully dusted and examined each one before returning it to its place, speaking softly to his only companion. “Hopefully soon.”
Or so he thought.
“Are you honestly still here?” Spat a sarcastic voice from one corner of the room, and Jaejoong turned with a sigh to see Heechul lurking near Yoochun’s beloved piano.
The Angel was once again restored to his flawless, pristine cleanliness; no longer looking ruffled or stressed, and certainly not marred by blood from the earlier scene. His clothing was still flawless white, as were his wings, his skin glowing dark eyes as endless as the night sky without stars. He tossed his head when he noticed Jaejoong’s attention was on him, his bright-red mane flying as he frowned at the Fallen Jaejoong.
For a moment Jaejoong considered not responding, but ignoring Heechul had never worked to make him go away before. If anything, it made him linger around one longer, annoying them until they couldn’t help but pay attention to him, if only so he would go away.
“Didn’t I say I did not want to argue with you anymore today?” Jaejoong asked tiredly, replacing another frame -this one showed Yoochun in a cowboy hat and jeans, riding a gray horse, and his smile was wide and bright- before turning to consider the unwelcome visitor.
Harang eyed the Angel as well, a low growl rumbling in his chest.
Heechul returned the dog’s unpleasant look with a glare of his own. “I’m not here to see you.”
Harang growled louder, pinning his ears flat to his head.
“It’s his house.” Jaejoong replied in a tired tone, tossing the cloth aside and crossing his arms over his chest. “What do you want, Heechul? The sooner you get it out and over with, the sooner you can go home. I promise, you are one of the things about Heaven I am least likely to miss.”
Heechul sniffed, silently disparaging Jaejoong’s intelligence. “Fine, fine. I just wanted to see if you were regretting your decision yet.”
“If you insist on visiting me multiple times a day, I am sure I will regret it in no time.” Jaejoong replied sweetly. “If only because, before I fell, I saw significantly less of you. That I already miss.”
“Now, now, Jaejoong.” Heechul admonished. “Just because you lent your Grace to a suicide and then fell does not mean you need to act like one of these cold-hearted humans.”
“I gave my Grace willingly, Heechul.” Jaejoong reiterated. “I did it to save him, and I do not regret that. I will not regret it, no matter how much you insist on ranting otherwise. Will you please leave? You don’t like Yoochun, and you certainly don’t like me, and Harang is perilously close to hating you. There’s no reason for you to stay.”
“You’re not my boss.” Heechul snapped. “I don’t have to leave just because you tell me to!”
“Umm, who are you?” Murmured a third voice, prompting both Angel and Fallen to spin around, and Harang to give a welcoming bark. “I don’t know either of you, and I know you don’t live here… So someone start explaining fast, or I’m calling the cops!”
