One:
An eight year old boy frowned as he watched a shadow dart across the lawn, wondering at the nature of it. A refugee from his father’s business party? Or a criminal? Taking his umbrella and calling one of the large guard dogs to go with him, young Choi DongWook made his way out to the patio and considered its solitary, soaking occupant. The Shepherd considered the drenched being with disinterest, leaning into DongWook’s side like all the dogs did when his father wasn’t looking. And like usual, the boy responded with an affectionate pat before tangling his fingers around the collar as he continued to frown at the stranger.
“You’re wet.” He murmured at last.
“You’re observant.” The other boy shot back as he spun around, his party-acceptable finery in a state of near ruin with water and mud. “It’s been raining most of the night -that’s what we call it when water falls from the sky- hence me being wet.”
“Ha, ha.” DongWook rolled his eyes and gave the dog a gentle push, sending him back into the house and slowly moving toward the stranger alone. “Why were you out in the rain?”
“Why do you care?” The soaked boy growled.
DongWook tilted his head thoughtfully. “Because you’re getting mud all over my patio.”
“I bet it’s your father’s patio.” The stranger muttered.
“I can go get him to ask why you were out in the rain.” At this idea, DongWook winced at the idea. “I’m sure that would be fun for you.”
“Fine, fine.”
“So… Why were you out in the rain?”
“Because I like it…” The boy shrugged.
“You like wearing formal clothing and running around in the rain?” DongWook tried for neutrality but his disbelief was audible.
“I always like the rain.” He replied softly. “It was once water that rose up to the sky… And it could have ridden in the clouds all around the world, and when it decided it had enough, it fell back down on the land. Maybe in a different place, maybe exactly where it came from… But either way it can go back up to the sky again, and travel, and fall somewhere else. Maybe somewhere it will like better.”
DongWook frowned, tilting his head thoughtfully. “Why do you care what the rain does?”
“Why don’t you?” The stranger challenged.
DongWook blinked. “I… I don’t know, I guess I never thought about it.”
The stranger shrugged, leaning against one of the proud columns and tilting his head back to welcome the drops of water falling down. “So start thinking about it.”

Two:
DongWook grinned as he slipped out of his bedroom window and scuttled across the yard, uncaring as the rain began streaking down and storm clouds boiled overhead. He had seen movement at the edge of the rose garden, and somehow he knew it was JiHoon visiting again.
Faced with the choice of sitting inside and listening to his father talk business downstairs, or chase after the strange boy, DongWook quickly ignored the fact that the weather conditions were not ideal, or at least not his ideal. JiHoon loved the rain.
“Hey!”
JiHoon hesitated at the call and then bolted further into the garden, sliding to a stop beneath the coverage of the gazebo. He was laughing when he turned and found DongWook at his heels, looking half-drowned but smiling. "Hey."
“In the rain again?” DongWook shook his head. “Why do you never talk to me in the house?”
“I usually get escorted away from the adults instantly.” JiHoon grinned with an unrepentant shrug. “So I can’t shame my father with my talk of thunderstorms and strange kids that I meet during them.”
“Haha, very funny.” DongWook gave him a playful shove. “I better be one of them.”
“The best one yet… So, wanna play tag?”
“We’ll get soaked!”
“It’s only water, Wookie. Come on! TAG!” With a playful slap to his friend’s shoulder, JiHoon bolted back into the strengthening rain.
“Yah! JiHoon! YAH! Not fair!”

Three:
“You’re the weirdest friend I’ve ever had.”
“We’re only twelve, Wookie… Are you comparing me to the imaginary dragons and unicorns you played with when you were seven?”
“You beat them by a mile.” A twelve-year old DongWook grinned as he moved to lean against the pillar that supported the patio roof over his head. “Do you come over just to walk around in my yard when it rains?”
“Only the third time I’ve done this, and already you’ve discovered my plans?” JiHoon sighed dramatically, shaking soaked hair out of his eyes as he approached the patio. The spray winged a pattern of droplets across DongWook’s gray shirt, but the other boy made no remark on it beyond a roll of his eyes. “That takes all the fun out of it, Wookie.”
“Don’t call me that.” DongWook muttered in an annoyed tone, brushing water from his cheek as he moved over slightly and JiHoon joined him in leaning against the pillar. “Think of a different nick-name.”
“I’ll work on it.”
“You better.”
“Or you’ll what?”
DongWook paused, considering his options. “Call up some of those dragons and send them after you.”
JiHoon’s laughter nearly drowned out the thunder.

Four:
“So, you still don’t like to be called Wookie, right?” JiHoon murmured, grinning as the body he leaned on twitched with a snort. “That sounded like it was a no.”
“JiHoon, please shut up.” Drowsy, DongWook shifted his head on his arms and muttered under his breath for his best friend to stop talking. “I can barely sleep as it is, with you treating me like a pillow and making me stay out here while it rains.”
“I like the rain.” JiHoon defended, shifting and digging his chin into his friend’s spine. It annoyed him when DongWook attempted to act older than his sixteen years, like he would grow up overnight and become who his father wanted him to be. JiHoon didn’t like that idea, the person his father wanted him to become was a stranger, and he couldn’t bear the thought of DongWook becoming a stranger to him. “You’re under cover, what’s your problem?”
“The wind shifts and we get soaked.”
“We’re already soaked.”
“So why don’t we go inside and change into something dry?”
“Because our fathers are there, talking business.”
DongWook winced. “Fair enough, I hate them more than the rain.”
JiHoon was quiet for a moment. “Wookie?”
DongWook groaned at the nickname. “Whaaaaaaaat?”
“Do you really hate the rain?”
“No… Not really.” He smiled faintly as he noted how JiHoon’s tone had softened. “Actually, when you’re here, I almost like it.”
“Only almost?”
“Right now, yeah, almost…”

Five:
JiHoon stared at DongWook as the other teen drew back, his eyes wide and lips still tingling. The feel of his best friend’s mouth against his had been almost electric, a shock that startled him right out of his tears at the loss of a younger Kin he had almost coaxed to safety.
“W-why did you do that, Wookie?”
“To make you stop crying.” DongWook defended himself softly, not bothering to correct the nickname as he brushed tears from JiHoon’s face. “I, I don’t like you crying, Ji-ah.”
“How do you know I’m crying?” JiHoon muttered. “I just came in from the rain, it could be water.”
“It’s raining on your face even though you’re still inside.” DongWook pointed out with a roll of his eyes. “Come on, I’ll get you some dry clothes and you can shower… You’re staying over.”
“Will… Will you kiss me again?”
DongWook grinned as he paced to the dresser and pulled out sleep pants and a t-shirt. “Maybe.”
“Only maybe?”
“Right now, yeah, only maybe…”

Six:
“I think I’m going to start calling you Seven.” JiHoon murmured as they sat entwined in the wide window-seat; it was comfortable to wrap himself around the other Kin as they watched the rain.
“Seven?” DongWook snorted, tilting his head on JiHoon’s shoulder in an attempt to read his expression. “Why?”
“Because you’ve always been lucky to me?” The thoughtful mask broke as JiHoon grinned.
“Wow, that was lame.” DongWook laughed, reaching back to tweak a strand of his friend’s hair. “Really lame, Ji-ah.”
Mockingly, JiHoon pouted. “Do I get to stick to Wookie then?”
“No, Seven is fine.”
“Se7en,” JiHoon laughed. “We’ll spell it with attitude, and everyone will wonder why.”
“Including me.” DongWook snorted. “Why?”

Seven:
DongWook stretched slightly, resettling into his chair just under the shade of the patio. The skies poured down their waters, a drenching stream flowing mere inches away from the Korean Kin. For the moment his button-up white shirt and simple blue jeans were dry, but as soon as the wind shifted that would change.
The one often called Se7en paid the possibility no mind, his expression serious as he watched the water flood down over the handsome grounds of the mansion he had recently inherited from his father. In taking over the various business aspects, he would be busier than ever, so he enjoyed his time in the storm for what it was. Soon he would be too busy -with work and the Resistance- to do such simple things.
“You’re thinking way too hard.” JiHoon muttered behind him, stalking out to the porch in nothing more than well-worn jeans. His hair was still ruffled from sleep and other activities, satisfaction laying heavy in his dark gaze. His movement was graceful, a sated cat swaggering out to survey its home. “I can see the knots forming in your neck and shoulders already. I just worked those out, you know.”
“I know.” Se7en shrugged, wincing as muscles instantly caught and pulled. His lover and best friend -because first and foremost, JiHoon certainly was his friend- spoke the truth. Just like that he had felt stress rush back into him, and he was knotted and tense all over again. “And you did such a good job.”
“Flattery to get into my pants?” JiHoon scoffed, padding over to stand behind the seated male and settling competent hands on tense shoulders. “You were just there and I just got them back on. How about I just work on your shoulders for a bit instead?”
“If you insist.” Se7en laughed to himself, tilting his head and purring in appreciation when strong fingers dug a particularly persistent knot out of his right shoulder. “Fuck, that’s good.”
“Your right is always the worst.” JiHoon tsked. “I don’t think it ever healed right after you tore it up two years ago…”
“Doesn’t feel like it.” Se7 agreed in a mutter. “Good thing I have you at my beck and call.”
“I cost extra to play beck-and-call-boy.” JiHoon muttered. “And no, rent doesn’t count.”
“You have your own mansion.” Se7 pointed out. “Even if you rarely visit it.”
“It’s nice to sit out here and listen to the rain.” JiHoon shrugged. “I don’t know why you’re picking at me. You’re the one that decided the Resistance was safer if they denned together, I’m just following orders.”
“And here I thought you couldn’t follow instruction.”
“When I want to, I can do exactly as I’m told.”
Se7en laughed. “So then, why are you here?”
JiHoon stilled. “I told you earlier.”
“You told me you wanted to come over and watch it rain.” Se7en rolled his eyes and then purred his appreciation at a particularly painful twist of his companion’s hands that resulted in a sharp crack in his spine. “You’ve always done that, you know… I’m going to start calling you Bi, or Rain, or something…”
“I guess that’s fair… We met for the first time in the rain, and as I recall it was raining when you kissed me…” JiHoon murmured thoughtfully, grinning as Se7en swore. “But that’s fair, because you were and are my lucky number Seven; so I can be your Rain.”
DongWook shook his head. “Definitely the weirdest friend I’ve ever had.”
“We’re still young, I’m sure you’ll find someone worse than me.”
“Don’t threaten me.”
