white sky

This might sound like a really strange observation, especially if you've never noticed it yourself, but just bear with me.

When I'm lying in bed at night and just before I switch off the light and attempt to go to sleep, if I look at the sky outside (as opposed to the sky inside) it's dark. As you would expect. It's a midnight blue, or an attempt ( Read more... )

cause your brain only recognises different colors through contrast. when you're eyes are used to the light inside of your room, all darker colors will appear black, not because it is black but its far enough from white for your brain to register black, or 'black enough' rather. the night sky is obviously not pitch black but rather (while observed from a general point on earth) a sort of greyish color which you wouldve seen if your brain didnt block it out because of the brighter light in your room. its all just about contrast.. the same goes for sound. if you'd put 4 speakers around you and have them all play the same thing but you'd turn one of them just a tad louder then the others. you would only be able to hear that one speaker, because its the thing your brain focuses on. thats how mp3 works. they delete all the sounds that our brains dont actually perceive, and thats how they're able to compress the music so much. if you have a trained ear and you know the music very well you would be able to tell the difference but at a glance ( ... )
