Wimbledon don don!

As if it was going to be any different...

Sorry A-rod, maybe next time... NOT!

I should get paid for my predictions. Many many moons ago, when Roddick was first starting out back in 2000, I said time and time again, that all the boy had was power--no finesse, no backup plan. As long as there were guys just as big and just as strong, guys who are capable of returning his serve, he doesn't stand a chance to win another major unless he starts upping other parts of his game. Now to his credit, he came to net a lot this tournament, and even tried to serve-and-volley some, so maybe he's finally trying to do something different, but the most ironic part of his change is that he lost even worse this final than he did last year. You can try to blame it on the fact that he had to play the day before due to a rain delay, giving Federer a whole day to rest up--God knows all the American commentators tired to, especially McEnroe--but Federer is on another freakin planet compared to rest of the ATP. Roddick would serve, Federer would return, and then the point was wide open as to who would win it. Andy wasn't able to dominate in the service department like he's used to, not against Federer, and not against a good number of his opponents this Wimbledon. Andy had three five-setters this tournament, and I would predict that as he gets older, his arm isn't going to be able to serve at the speeds it can now. His serve will steadily slow down, and he wouldn't have learned the other necessary parts to win majors, and will then be in a real pickle. Federer had only one four-setter all tournament, with plenty of aces and forehand winners to boot. No one ever goes on and on about his power, and that's because he has so much more to talk about. To be perfectly honest, Roddick shouldn't have even gotten as far as he did this Wimbledon. He got rather lucky this tournament with the seedings. Andy's number four in the world, behind Lleyton Hewitt(2), and Rafael Nadal(3), and of course Roger Federer(1). For reasons that I think had more to with building interest and less about fairness, they seeded Roddick number two, Hewitt number three, and Nadal number four--allowing Roddick to have an easier chance to advance all the way to the final. Wimbledon said it seeds it's player on their grass court records for the past two years, not their ATP rankings like most other tournaments. Had they seeded the players on their hard work all year long, Federer would had probably played Roddick in the semi-finals, later playing Hewitt in the finals, a chance I feel Hewitt deserved considering he's ranked two positions higher than Roddick in the ATP. But the moral of the story is all the same, Federer rocks, and it's up to everyone else to try to catch up. He's definitely on his way to smashing all the records!

Oh, and yay for Venus Williams. I love that she's back on track, and better than ever. I'm glad that she's finally got the spot light back on her, and off her gaudy sister Serena. She improved her forehand, reduced the speed of her serve to improve her first serve percentage, and got back into shape. When someone does a complete revamp of their game, they deserve to win. So kudos to you!!
