"The Hard Times of RJ Berger": Being a nerdy boy in high school is tough. Well, unless you somehow get your pants pulled down in front of the school and the entire student body realizes that you are anatomically gifted. Then the ( Read more... )

That's too much effort to relocate to Mars. It's much better to shoot Twilight and RJ Beringer into the sun.

And I thought having to follow a car with this* on the bumper all the way home from work was the most nauseating thing I was going to have to experience today.

(Incidentally, the fact that this tripe is now billed as having "a bit of a Judd Apatow vibe" makes my Freaks and Geeks loving heart die 1392 deaths.)

* I just...ugh. Worst example of Assvertising and Today in Rape Culture I've EVER FREAKIN' SEEN. And all to promote souped-up mufflers that cause noise pollution.

DID JUDD APATOW DO "FREAKS AND GEEKS"??? Because people keep saying things like this to me when I send them this link, and I have never seen either FaG OR an Apatow film ... but I tend to have my doubts that I'd care much for the latter. I don't know what to think if it turns out he was responsible for the former. (... although, "Dude, what HAPPENED to you??" might be more or less my line of thought for him.)

P.S. If you're still not ticked off enough, you should read "Enlightened Sexism" post haste. Although she gets "Buffy" a bit wrong, most of what she has to say is infuriatingly right on the mark. HIGHLY recommended.

That's more than a bit of a Judd Apatow vibe, that's even more Judd Apatow than Judd Apatow.

I only watched the first ep of Inbetweeners, but IIRC it was pretty much a normal high school show that was more explicit about sex stuff.

Huh. It makes one wonder how the reviewers equated "a show about high school that was honest about sex" with "a show about high school wherein enlightened sexism allows us to show girls as boy-crazy sluts whose only standards for guys are penis size."

... not that I am BITTER MUCH. :P

It goes a bit beyond "honest", I think, but no more so than a lot of British comedies. From looking at the episode summaries on Wikipedia, it looks like none of the main characters end up with girlfriends, so it's more like the anti-Apatow.
